Lacazette and Welbeck exchange banter with Mustafi on Instagram

[ad_pod ]

Shkodran Mustafi is still very much a Gunner, with the 27-year-old’s contract lasting until the summer of 2021.

However, according to the London Evening Standard, Arsenal are willing to cash in on the German should the right offer arrive, though there is no concrete interest in his signature.

Speculation in the media hasn’t stopped the defender from enjoying his holiday and messing around with his friends and teammates on social media.

The experienced centre-back recently took to

Lacazette quickly made fun of Mustafi’s abs and made sure to tease his fellow Gunner with a small message and a couple of emojis.

Mustafi replied stating that they can’t all be as fit as Welbeck is, and Welbeck himself decided to respond to it with a series of laughing emojis.

Mustafi has played a total of 31 games in the 2018/19 season and has scored twice.

The former Valencia man has taken his fair share of criticism from Arsenal supporters since signing for the club in 2016, but that doesn’t seem to have stopped his teammates from poking fun at him.

Chelsea: Loan army must listen to Tammy Abraham’s hard-hitting words

It is now or never.

Those were the words of Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham as he discussed the potential arrival of Frank Lampard and the prospect of the club’s loan army getting game time at Stamford Bridge this upcoming season.

“This year is the most important year for us [young players]. It is now or never. There will never be a better time to play the youngsters,” the 21-year-old was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

“There is a great chance for us so we must get our heads down at training and go for it at Chelsea,” Abraham later added.

There is no doubt about it, with the Blues under a transfer embargo, the youngsters from the loan army have a real chance here, a chance that some of them might never get again as Abraham has pointed out.

With Lampard, who talkSPORT believe could be appointed as Chelsea boss any moment now, unable to use the transfer market, he will only be able to turn to that group of loan players and academy products if he wants to improve his squad this summer.

And if that turns out to be the case, as expected, then the 41-year-old will not be starved of options.

If he feels there is a need for another central defender, Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori are there. In midfield, he can call upon a man he has heavily relied on at Derby County, Mason Mount. And up front, Abraham himself could be a very promising addition to the squad.

These players will arguably not get a better chance; it really is now or never for them.

Spurs have "more chances" to sign Real Madrid star Ceballos

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Tottenham Hotspur have “more chances” to sign Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid this summer than other interested clubs, per AS.

What’s the word?

The attacking midfielder is reportedly deemed expendable this summer, with Sevilla and Real Betis both interested in securing his signature.

However, the aforementioned report claims that he has a €50m (£44.7m) asking price on his head, with Real seemingly happy to acquiesce to his sale.

The demanded fee, though, could prove prohibitive to his Spanish suitors, the report states, with Spurs more likely to match it.

Ceballos has just won the European Under-21 Championships with Spain, scoring two goals and registering two assists for La Roja.

An ideal signing

Ceballos could be perfect for Spurs.

He hasn’t really been given a chance at Real, making a total of 56 appearances for the club.

Yet he is a gifted midfielder, an excellent passer and a willing runner. Mauricio Pochettino requires both an intense work rate and an elite technical ability from his players, and the Spaniard has both.

Per WhoScored, he averaged a total of 44.1 passes per game in La Liga, with a pass completion rate of 92.6%.

He recycles possession effectively and also averages one key pass per game, along with 1.4 tackles, showing he is no slouch pressing and tracking back despite his obvious attacking flair.

Ceballos is certainly understated – perhaps that is why Real are so willing to cash in – but he is also quietly effective at every aspect of the game.

Spurs could do a lot worse than bringing him in this summer.

Rangers fans loved their first glimpse of midfield signing Joe Aribo

[ad_pod ]

Rangers fans liked the look of Joe Aribo after he made his debut from the bench in UEFA Europa League action on Tuesday night.

Steven Gerrard’s side kicked off their bid to reach the group stages of the competition with a dominant 4-0 win over minnows St Joseph’s of Gibraltar.

Goals from Ryan Jack, Sheyi Ojo, Borna Barisic and Alfredo Morelos provided the victory, which should give the Gers an easy 90 minutes in the second leg at Ibrox next week.

Thogden challenged himself to DM 100 footballers on Instagram. Find out who replied in the video below…

Gerrard gave four players their Rangers debuts, with Ojo and Jordan Jones starting the match before Aribo and Greg Stewart came on in the second half.

Aribo showed some nice touches and found passing combinations with his teammates that suggest he is settling well into the Rangers squad.

BBC pundit Derek Ferguson credited the former Charlton man with adding a change of pace to Gerrard’s team alongside Jones and Ojo.

Manchester United Transfer Roundup: Milenkovic approach, Lukaku bid, Longstaff not a priority

[ad_pod ]

Wednesday’s Manchester United transfer roundup consisted of an update on Paul Pogba, news on a Belgian international and a 26-year-old’s desire to move to Old Trafford. Today’s edition revolves around an enquiry made for a Serie A defender, an offer prepared for that aforementioned Diables Rouges player and the pursuit of a Premier League midfielder.

Milenkovic enquiry made

Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that United have recently made an enquiry to Fiorentina for Nikola Milenkovic. The 21-year-old Serbian made 38 appearances for La Viola last season.

Inter ready with Lukaku bid

Inter are ready to present their bid to the Red Devils for striker Romelu Lukaku according to The Guardian. The Nerazzurri will ask to take the former Everton forward on an initial two-year loan followed by an obligation to buy. The overall package would be worth €70m (£63m).

Longstaff latest

According to The Manchester Evening News, Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff has been that there are a few players ahead of him in the club’s attempts to sign a central midfielder. However, it appears that may be a somewhat misguided negotiating tactic.

Manchester United’s Maguire swoop branded "ridiculous" by Dean Saunders

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Wales international Dean Saunders has questioned Manchester United’s decision to pay a reported £80m for Harry Maguire when they could have paid the release clause for Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.

What did he say?

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are very much intent on signing Leicester centre-back Harry Maguire and have seemingly not been put off by the sizeable valuation being placed on the 26-year-old.

Alderweireld’s reported release clause of £25m is understood to be expiring on Friday, and Saunders has now questioned why the Red Devils haven’t turned their attentions towards the Belgian.

He said: “It’s got ridiculous now, hasn’t it? £80million for Harry Maguire. It’s not his fault, but where is it going to stop?

“Would you take Toby Alderweireld for £25million or Harry Maguire for £80million? You can’t get your money back on Alderweireld, he’s 30, but he’s probably a better player right now.

“As a striker, I’d be thinking to myself, ‘If I can get Maguire out in the channels and get him isolated, he’s not mobile’.”

Value for money?

As United seemingly bear the brunt of paying a ‘British premium’ for players, the chance to sign Alderweireld is seemingly slipping away by the second. The Spurs centre-back has proven himself to be one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers for the north London side and would certainly add a sense of proven quality to United’s back-line.

Indeed, in the state of the current market with inflated transfer fees and extortionate wages, Alderweireld’s reported availability at just £25m marks him out as someone who represents fine value for money. His experience of playing in the Champions League in recent seasons also adds to his added value, whereas Maguire has predominantly played for a Leicester side hovering around mid-table.

Alderweireld has played for a Spurs side that has been challenging for the Premier League title and been legitimate top-four contenders for a while now; that proven experience as Saunders says surely marks the 30-year-old out as the better player. United’s insistence on buying British has seemingly blinded them on what has been staring them in the face.

Leeds unlikely to be chosen over Rangers by Kent, claims Darren Bent

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

According to Darren Bent who was talking to Football Insider, he thinks that Leeds could struggle to sign Ryan Kent this summer because of the advantage Rangers have over the Whites.

What’s he said?

Leeds haven’t wrapped up too much business throughout the summer with Jack Harrison, Helder Costa and Ben White arriving, alongside Jack Clarke who returned after making a move to Tottenham.

It’s been somewhat of a topsy-turvy beginning to pre-season after Marcelo Bielsa decided not to travel for Leeds’ opening game on their tour of Australia against Manchester United yesterday.

Instead, he decided to stay behind as the club also took on Tadcaster Albion on the same day.

However, Leeds could be about to suffer a setback in the transfer market if Bent’s comments are to be believed.

He has hinted that Leeds are unlikely to sign Kent, whom Noel Whelan has suggested has been the subject of conversation between Bielsa and Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said:

“You’d have to say Rangers have got the advantage because he’s been there already.

“If it was me and I knew Steven Gerrard, played there last season, he wants me back again, I’d be more inclined to stay where I’m at because there’s not too many changes.”

Nothing to worry about

Bent’s comments should be nothing to worry about for Leeds despite his impressive record of 12 goal involvements in the SPFL last term.

The fact of the matter is that they already have quality in forward areas in abundance with Harrison, Clarke, Costa and Pablo Hernandez all boasting the ability to play out wide.

Therefore, if you bear that in mind, it’s unlikely the winger would become a regular starter under Bielsa if he did indeed make the switch.

It certainly makes sense to suggest that Rangers hold the advantage and it wouldn’t necessarily be a guarantee that he could replicate the form he showed in 2018/19 in the Championship.

It’s hard to deny the fact he wouldn’t be an intriguing acquisition for the Yorkshire club, but there would be no real reason to kick up a fuss if he makes a move back to Scotland instead.

For Leeds, this really isn’t disastrous news.

Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling gets a lot of attention on his latest Instagram snap

[ad_pod ]

Manchester City returned to their regular training after finishing the 2019 summer pre-season tour of Asia. Now, their attention turns to Sunday’s clash against Liverpool.

The Community Shield puts the champions of England against the runners-up at Wembley Stadium, which is also what is usually taken as the first step of the new Premier League campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s troops have been training at the City Football Academy and are looking to step up their preparations as the new season rapidly approaches.

Raheem Sterling shared some

/B0jPNNPimnr/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram snaps from the training grounds as the team seemed to be in very good spirits.

And sure enough, he was quickly swarmed by some other stars and friends who were quick to post a reply under the photo.

Sterling himself captioned it with “Babyface Razza”, seemingly rinsing himself because of how the snap turned out.

Leon Bailey played along but instead of calling the young forward babyface, he called him “muscle face”.

There were others commenting as well, mostly focusing on the new trim Sterling has seemingly got at the barbers, or just sending some love with emojis.

Newcastle fans are sad to hear Kenedy is heading to the Championship

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Newcastle fans have been reacting to some transfer news on a former player, as Kenedy is reportedly set to join Championship outfit Reading.

Talk Reading claim the Royals are set to secure the capture of the Chelsea winger on loan, before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Mark Douglas, publishing editor for The Chronicle, has added validity to the report, claiming that the Magpies were quoted at £30m to sign the youngster permanently last summer, while Oliver Harbord of Football.London has also seemingly confirmed the move is on, calling it a “strange move”.

The young Blue spent 18 months on loan on Tyneside, impressing in his first temporary stay before completely going off the boil last season, registering just one goal and one assist in 25 league appearances.

With all due respect to Reading, being quoted to Premier League teams at a whopping £30m is quite a height to fall to last season’s twentieth-best team in the Championship from, and the Toon Army are sad to hear of the 23 year-old’s fate.

Maybe he will rediscover his spark without the pressure of the top-flight, but the Twitter reactions down below are disappointed in their former loanee…
