Mauricio Pochettino won’t be sacked by Daniel Levy, Tim Sherwood claims

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a monumental, head-splitting hangover since their big night out in the Champions League. How does one explain madness? The point of it is that it’s totally incomprehensible to the rational mind, and what’s currently happening at Spurs falls comfortably within that irrational and inexplicable bracket.Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Indeed, if the 7-2 home drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich or the pitiful eight wins in 23 games before that wasn’t enough, Mauricio Pochettino and his band of underperformers most certainly hit rock bottom on Saturday when they were thumped 3-0 by Brighton and Hove Albion, a side that hasn’t won a single Premier League game since the opening day of the season.

Whether or not this means the end of the Argentine’s reign at Spurs remains to be seen.

Tim Sherwood, a man that knows all too well about being handed his p45 by Daniel Levy, had his say on the situation and whether he believes Pochettino will be sacked…

West Brom fans drool over Matheus Pereira’s latest transfer update

West Brom are entering the international break in possession of the Championship lead, but that’s not the only piece of good news up in the west Midlands.

Birmingham Live are reporting that Matheus Pereira has already agreed on personal terms ahead of making his loan deal permanent at the Hawthorns.

The Baggies have an option to buy from parent club Sporting Lisbon for £9m, which either depends on appearances or whether they earn promotion to the Premier League.

Pereira joined the club on deadline day and has since gone on to score twice and provide four assists in just six starts, per WhoScored, while at the same time becoming a real favourite amongst fans – certainly if their reaction to this news is anything to go by.

One supporter claimed it would be an excellent piece of business with another adding that it was the effect of Slaven Bilic that made this possible.

A further member of the Albion faithful said the club would make £91m profit next summer with one more praying it was true.

Here’s the best of the reaction:

Brahim Diaz should leave Real Madrid on loan

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Brahim Diaz has not really been a prominent part of Real Madrid’s squad. And if recent reports coming from AS are any indication, that’s not likely to change any time soon.

Los Blancos are reportedly pushing for the young talent to go on loan but so far, he’s been very reluctant to accept. That could be a big mistake on his part.

What’s the word then?

Ever since he was at Manchester City, the 20-year-old talent has been rather impressive.

Back then, he scored 11 goals and assisted ten for their U23 squad and even made 15 appearances for their senior team, netting twice in the process. For that reason, Real’s interest and eventual purchase were not really a surprise.

What was a surprise, however, was their decision to completely freeze him out of the squad. It has been over 140 days since Diaz last featured for Los Blancos.

He made 11 appearances for them across all competitions in 2018/19 and then he was gone – just like that.

Seeing how that trend is unlikely to change any time soon, his decision to refuse to go on loan might cost him.

A chance to shine

The youngster doesn’t really have to look any farther than his on loan teammates to see the full benefits of such a deal.

Both Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos have decided to take a step away from Real in order to fully show what they have in store and what they are capable of.

Watch Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale answer the internet’s weirdest questions in the video below…

Now, both of them are thriving with their temporary clubs – Odegaard is excelling at Real Sociedad, making eight appearances in La Liga and Ceballos thriving at Arsenal, with 11 appearances in all competitions.

But if Diaz eventually decides to stay at Real, which is looking likely according to AS, he could put his whole career in danger.

Not playing is the worst thing that can happen to a young and developing player and if this continues in the future and Zidane remains reluctant to play him, his talents could truly go to waste.

And that would be a shame – for him, the club and all the fans.

Let’s hope he makes the right choice in the end.

Leeds CEO Angus Kinnear has just heaped big pressure on the squad

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

He’s written the cheque, but he won’t be the one that has to cash it.

Whilst excitement surrounding the 100th-anniversary celebrations reverberated around the club, there was one bit of news that has dwarfed the whole affair.

Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear has announced that plans are in place to expand Elland Road into a 50,000 capacity stadium, on the condition that the club are promoted to the Premier League.

As we touched on yesterday when talking about the fans reaction to the news, this kind of promise, especially with the caveat that it is top-flight dependant is just going to pile the pressure onto the shoulders of Marcelo Bielsa and the players.

They essentially hold the future of the club in their hands, certainly short term.

If you take a look at clubs in the past and how they have managed to transform themselves on the back of bigger stadiums, it’s proven to be game-changing. Brighton and Hove Albion moved from the Withdean to the Amex and cracked the top flight after 34 years away.

Swansea City went from the Vetch Field to the Liberty Stadium where they were valued at £1 before having seven seasons in the top division. The most remarkable of all was Leicester City going from Filbert Street to the King Power Stadium and winning the Premier League, the list goes on.

The steps that those clubs have taken are exactly the kind of things that could be awaiting Leeds, but it all rides on them getting promotion to the Premier League.

In defence of Kinnear, at least he’s doing this by expanding the current stadium rather than moving the club to a new one, but the point about capacity remains the same.

As Danny Mills said the other day, this season is very much Premier League or bust for the Whites. Not just because of what it could mean in the summer of 2020 when they can try to buy many of the loan players that may have got them promoted, but because of the ramifications for the next couple of years as well.

Why are Leeds fans the best in the country? Find out in the video below…

With the number of loan players that are currently making up the squad, six in total, and Leeds not exactly in the best of positions financially, they are hanging by a thread under the current ownership.

They simply can’t afford to spend vast sums on players that will make a difference and they are running out of time if they want to do so with their current crop.

There’s a famous song that opposing fans like to use to mock those at Elland Road; ‘Leeds, Leeds are falling apart, again’, used to mock the fact that the west Yorkshire side have never been able to get back to the Premier League after 15+ years of waiting and coming so close in the process.

With Kinnear making a promise like this, it is now up to the players and manager to deliver, or fans could have to put up with hearing that song for many years to come.

Man City prodigy Phil Foden pushes for start against Aston Villa

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Raheem Sterling may have grabbed the headlines with another hat-trick for Manchester City, but it is Phil Foden who should have left the Etihad with the biggest smile after the Atalanta win.

Despite a late sending off for two debatable yellow cards within six minutes, the 19-year-old may have finally laid down his marker on Pep Guardiola’s side with his display.

Foden’s start against the Italian side was just his second of the season in all competitions after he played 90 minutes in the League Cup win over Preston North End. Alongside these two starts, the teenager has had just 11 minutes of league action but now, after his Champions League outing, he deserves a start in the top-flight.

Foden registered one assist against Atalanta and made four key passes, creating four big chances, per Sofascore. In truth, he could have left with more than the one assist and against Aston Villa this weekend, he could do the same.

The academy graduate proved his creativity on Tuesday and, considering Dean Smith’s side have let in 13 league goals already, Foden will be chomping at the bit to be involved once again this weekend.

Ultimately, City’s 29 league goals and Villa’s poor defence could be the perfect time for him to get some more Premier League experience.

The playmaker showed with his 94% pass accuracy that he can control the midfield alongside Kevin De Bruyne and help create for the likes of Sterling, who once again bagged three.

Sooner or later, Foden is most likely going to step into David Silva’s shoes with the Spaniard leaving at the end of the season.

If Guardiola wants this to happen he must begin to include him from the outset on a regular basis – starting against Villa.

Manchester United fans react to ridiculous hat-trick stat

Manchester United fans on Twitter have been reacting to an incredible stat on Twitter.

The chief Manchester United writer at Manchester Evening News, Samuel Luckhurst, revealed that not a single United player has scored a league hat-trick since Robin Van Persie back in 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Considering the plethora of attacking talent United have had during that time it’s incredible to see this stat.

Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have all failed to score three times in a single league game for the Red Devils.

Fans had varying reactions to the stat being revealed.

Some fans seemingly didn’t care too much as their primary focus was getting points on the board rather than wasting time worrying about pointless stats.

Others were far from happy with what they were reading as one supporter called it embarrassing.

Here’s what the Old Trafford faithful have been saying on social media…

Sunderland fans respond to club post reflecting on Fabio Borini’s strike vs Newcastle

A number of Sunderland supporters have been responding to a post on the Black Cats’ Twitter feed, reflecting on Fabio Borini’s late winning goal against Newcastle United in 2013.

The Stadium of Light natives had opened the scoring in the fifth-minute of the Premier League encounter through Steven Fletcher, only to be pegged back early into the second-half when Mathieu Debuchy tapped home Hatem Ben Arfa’s shot unmarked at the back post.

Sunderland had dominated for large proportions of the clash, but a decline in intensity following the break saw Newcastle take advantage and punish Gus Poyet’s side (BBC).

Yohan Cabaye nearly put the visiting Magpies ahead as well, although the Black Cats would rally late on, and regain the lead when Borini blasted a long-range effort beyond Tim Krul.

The win was Sunderland’s first of the campaign and would see them rise above Crystal Palace at the bottom of the Premier League standings, bringing a sense of optimism to Wearside.

But six years on, Sunderland find themselves eighth in League One, and the Black Cats’ post reflecting on the Tyne-Wear Derby from 2013 has seen some fans vent their frustrations having been beaten by Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

Sunderland have now won just two of their last seven games in the third-tier, while their latest loss leaves last season’s Play-Off Finalists eight points behind League One leaders Ipswich Town and three points down on sixth-placed Coventry City.

Others though, have simply shared their thoughts on the experience, ranging from falling down about six rows of seats to “falling in love” with Borini himself.

Here are some of the messages shared in response to Sunderland’s post…

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp shows off his man-management skills on Dejan Lovren

Hugging is the name of the game for man-management apex Jurgen Klopp, whose warm embracing methods have earned him an unrivalled reputation amongst the footballing world.October marked four years since the German took the reins from former boss Brendan Rodgers. In that time, he’s revolutionised Liverpool’s squad by signing key players like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, turned the Reds into one of the best sides in the world, won the Champions League and dished out more hugs than a Disney Princess at Magic Kingdom during school holidays.Watch Liverpool Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Speaking about Klopp’s management style, van Dijk told the Mirror back in January: “There is something about Klopp that makes him stand out. It’s not just his energy, I think it’s his man management.

“Klopp makes you feel great. He is genuinely pleased to see you in the morning and that has a big effect on the players who come in.

“Just look at the hugs he gives us all at the end of games. It is only a bit of affection, something very small, but it makes you feel great.â€

With Joel Matip out for the foreseeable future, Klopp’s management skills will again be put the test as he tries to massage self-proclaimed ‘one of the best in the world’ Dejan Lovren into his title-chasing squad.

Demonstrating how he manages to squeeze every ounce out of his players, Klopp was recorded giving Lovren one of his famous hugs after the Tottenham game…

Liverpool will be hoping to breeze past a struggling Arsenal side, who are currently facing captain problems and poor form, when they meet Wednesday evening in the next round of the League Cup.

West Brom’s Romaine Sawyers is so much more than what Adrian Durham has claimed

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Pressure, what pressure?

West Bromwich Albion returned to the top of the Championship table with a comfortable 2-0 victory over basement boys Stoke City on Monday night.

The Baggies had slipped down the table slightly over the weekend, but only because those around them competed 48 hours earlier.

Watch West Bromwich Albion Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

A goal from Matty Phillips, who snagged his sixth of the season, and a penalty from super-sub Hal Robson-Kanu was enough to secure all three points up in Staffordshire.

Following the match, talkSPORT pundit Adrian Durham made a bold claim surrounding another one of Albion’s key players.

He believes that despite being the best ‘passer of a ball’ in the division, Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips is the best overall player in the division.

There’s no doubt that is enough to back up his viewpoint – Phillips is United’s top-rated player on WhoScored (7.45), while no other player has recorded more tackles (four).

But to discount Sawyers entirely from the argument on that basis is a little naive, he offers so much more than just his passing ability.

The 28-year-old is the key orchestrator to the entire squad – averaging 80.3 touches per game. He is the metronome, the engine.

Without him, there is an argument to be made that the Baggies wouldn’t be where they are.

Sawyers has played every minute of every game this season, which only three other players have managed, and they are all in defence, a position that probably requires less energy.

The midfield maestro is averaging a vast 92% passing accuracy and nearly 70 passes per game, which ranks him as the best overall in the division for the first category, and the best midfielder in the division for the latter.

But he also offers other aspects to his game as seen with his 1.3 tackles and 75% aerial duels won per game, via SofaScore.

Sawyers is even a player that Leeds fans were drooling over after his performance on Monday night as they clearly regret not trying to sign him in the summer – despite having Phillips.

In the same clip linked above, former Premier League striker Darren Bent claims he cannot believe that the Baggies man isn’t playing in the top-flight.

This only goes to show his importance to Slaven Bilic’s side, and given the lack of options he has at central midfield, taking him out of the team would be so much more disastrous than if Phillips was absent for Marcelo Bielsa.

If Sawyers gets injured or picks up suspension it will result in a rapid recall for either Gareth Barry, who hasn’t played since his ‘career-threatening’ injury, or Rekeem Harper, who has played just six league minutes all season while centre-back Semi Ajayi is also an option.

Whereas Leeds have multiple options to fill any void left behind by Phillips – for example, Adam Forshaw has a better passing success rate than the 23-year-old at 89.7%, which is the highest in their squad, per WhoScored.

It is this sort of ‘MVP’ status that makes Sawyers the best in the division as he’s just ever so crucial to Albion’s promotion hopes and given they are top of the table, and that he’s played every game, he should currently be the number one name on Durham’s lips.

West Ham could play Michail Antonio against Tottenham Hotspur

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Manuel Pellegrini could play Michail Antonio against Tottenham Hotspur after the international break, as reported by Football Insider.

The winger has recovered from surgery on a hamstring injury that has kept him out since he was forced off after eight minutes of the Carabao Cup game against Newport County in August.

As long as the 29-year-old goes through the international break unscathed, it seems as though he will be included in the squad to play the Hammers’ London rivals.

This is a massive boost for the Hammers, especially when it is considered that this will be against Spurs.

Antonio has previous against them and that will give the fans optimism ahead of the clash.

He scored the only goal of the game in the final face off at Upton Park and he also added the winner in their first matchup at the brand new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a goal that was topped off with a typically entertaining celebration.

Not only is he something of a lucky charm against Spurs, he will be returning at a good time for Sebastien Haller.

When Tony Cottee spoke to FFC, he mentioned the lack of support the Frenchman has been given: “I think at times he’s been a little bit isolated up front, so he could do with a little bit of help.”

Before picking up the injury, Antonio spoke of how good it was to play with Haller, as reported by The Athletic: “It’s good that we have two people up there now who can play the big man game. We can both hold the ball up, we can both run in from behind, so we’ve had a nice little partnership going.”

With this in mind, having Antonio available could help bring the best out of Haller, who has now gone four games without a goal.

Considering how poor things have been in recent weeks for the Hammers, it will be a massive boost to their chances of beating Spurs if Antonio is able to feature.
