وعلق البرازيلي على مستقبله في تصريحات لصحيفة “أبولا” البرتغالية، وقال: “الرحيل؟ حصولي على هذه الجائزة تقول أنني أركز فقط مع بورتو”.

وأتم: “الصحف تكتب ما تريد وبغض النظر عما يحدث، فأنا هنا والأهم هو تحقيق الفوز”.

Arsenal are set to re-open talks to sign Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega after failing to complete a transfer in the January window, as reported by The Mirror.

What’s the word, then?

The Argentina international is well known to Gunners boss Unai Emery, as the Spanish manager coached the midfielder during their time together at Valencia and at Sevilla, where they won the Europa League together.

The need for a midfielder at the Emirates is a necessity, as the north Londoners will lose Aaron Ramsey to Juventus in the summer, whilst the future of Mesut Ozil remains up in the air after he has been left out of several matchday squads by Emery.

Banega has a release clause of £17m, which was not met in the winter transfer window as Arsenal were struggling for funds (as per The Mirror). However, a summer move looks far more realistic and one that the Gunners are keen on completing.

Banega is far from the answer

Targeting the 30-year-old is completely wrong move by Emery. Admittedly, Banega is an excellent footballer and has undoubted quality.

Having said that, any positives that he does bring to the Emirates will be short lived. The Argentine turns 31 in June, and another ageing player is not what Arsenal need right now.

They are already in need of fresher faces in defence, with Sokratis, Laurent Koscielny, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Nacho Monreal all 30, 33, 35 and 32 years of age respectively.

If the news of Emery’s slim summer transfer budget is true – it is said to be just £40m – then the former PSG boss will need to be shrewd in his dealings.

What he certainly should not do is splash almost half of it on a player he will need to replace in a few years.

In an exclusive interview with Football League World, EFL on Quest pundit and once-capped former England striker Dean Ashton has given his verdict on Sheffield United frontman Gary Madine.

What he said

Madine joined the high-flying Blades on loan from Premier League outfit Cardiff City in the recent January transfer window, as reported by the BBC.

Chris Wilder’s side are currently in the thick of the Championship title hunt, along with Leeds United and Norwich City. The arrival of the powerful 28-year-old forward could give everyone at Bramall Lane an all-important boost ahead of the final few months of the campaign.

Madine opened his account for Sheffield United with a well-taken brace against Reading last time out. With those strikes under his belt, he should now be feeling a lot more comfortable and confident in the Steel City. 

Ashton certainly believes he has plenty more to give, saying “he gives them way more physicality for when they clear the ball as he can hold it up and win the headers…He’s the sort of player that Chris Wilder likes to work with too where they’re not having a great time, he feels if he can bring him in, build their confidence and utilise him for what he’s got then that’s why he’s been signed.”

A masterstroke?

Ashton is right to note that Madine is arriving at Bramall Lane off the back of a difficult period in south Wales. The striker barely featured for the Bluebirds in the first half of the season, which must have knocked his confidence. 

However, he has the qualities to be an asset for United, as well as a very welcome rotation option to the likes of Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick, who have both been in fine form this season but are now 33 and 31, respectively, and could be about to show signs of fatigue.

If Madine can give Wilder’s side the boost they need to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League, then his capture will have to be considered a masterstroke on the manager’s part.

وأتم تصريحاته قائلًا: “الموسم التحضيري حتى الآن كان جيدًا بالنسبة لي، اللاعبون تحسنوا كثيرًا من الناحية البدنية، وبعض الأمور التكتيكية أيضًا”.

Unai Emery’s Arsenal moved into the top four on Sunday afternoon after beating Southampton 2-0 at the Emirates, while at the same time Manchester United were held to a goalless draw by Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Of course, many supporters may think that Mesut Ozil holds the key to securing a top four spot after his recent rise in form, but the defensive side of things is just as important and Sven Mislintat’s summer signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos has certainly been one of the surprise shining lights in recent times.

The win over the Saints was only the fifth time this season that the North London club has managed to keep a clean sheet in the league and it once again emphasised the importance of having Sokratis in the side.

Indeed, the Greek has been brilliant under the circumstances since joining the Gunners from Borussia Dortmund last summer, and they’ll find it difficult to qualify for the Champions League without Sokratis’ presence.

Sokratis has been as solid as a rock for Emery this season and has probably been the only defender who’s brought a sense of calmness to the team during his performances on the field.

The 30-year-old has been forced to adapt due to injuries to the likes of Rob Holding, Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny. But, Sokratis, who is valued at £18 million (by Transfermarkt), has thrived under the pressure of constantly switching between a back-four and a back-three formation.

He’s been nothing less than outstanding as he’s capitalised on every opportunity up until this point, despite having to take a lot of responsibility.

Indeed, Arsenal looked more composed and organised with Sokratis on the field last time out. So, the availability of the Greece international will have to be a priority for the Gunners from here on in, with progression in the Europa League and a top four spot being a must.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy will appear on the latest Old Gold Club podcast on Wednesday evening, and he has named four signings he made for the club in the Premier League that he got completely wrong, as per wolves.co.uk.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the now Republic of Ireland boss spent five-and-a-half years at Molineux between 2006-2012, leading the west Midlands outfit in the Championship and in the top flight.

The now 60-year-old was sacked following a poor run of results that culminated in a 5-1 home humiliation by arch-rivals West Bromwich Albion.

One of the reasons for their downfall was poor recruitment, and McCarthy has admitted on the Old Gold Club podcast that four signings he believed would be good turned out to be the complete opposite.

He said: “The recruitment turned out not to be great. Roger Johnson, Nenad Milijas, Jelle Van Damme, Jamie O’Hara.

“I’m thinking we’re signing better players, we all thought it, but they weren’t better than Christophe Berra, David Jones. Roger Johnson was nowhere near better than Christophe Berra, Jamie O’Hara was nowhere near the lads we’d already got.”

Is this a ground-breaking revelation?

Not particularly, no.

It was clear to see from the quartet’s performances on the pitch that they were nowhere near good enough – and no better than some of the players they replaced in the starting XI – but it is always interesting to hear a manager’s take on what happened.

McCarthy isn’t one to mince his words and he certainly hasn’t in this case either, throwing Johnson and O’Hara under the bus in particular.

After falling out of favour under Mark Hughes, James Ward-Prowse has come back into the reckoning at Southampton following the arrival of Ralph Hasenhuttl, coming up with some big performances for his new boss.

As a result, the 24-year-old could now be set for an England call-up, something which would undoubtedly be deserved.

The Breakdown

The Daily Mirror reports that Ward-Prowse, watched by England No. 2 Steve Holland in Southampton’s shock win against Tottenham, is now being considered by Gareth Southgate for games versus the Czech Republic and Montenegro.

And looking at England’s current midfield options, the Southampton man would not be a bad choice.

In the Three Lions’ last few fixtures, the likes of Harry Winks, Eric Dier and Ross Barkley have all performed well with that UEFA Nations League game against Spain coming to mind.

However, with Dier having not played a lot of football of late, Winks struggling for fitness and Barkley not in the best of form, there should be an opportunity for Ward-Prowse who could bring a lot to the next England squad.

The Southampton academy graduate’s ability on the ball is exactly the sort of thing Southgate could make good use of in his more technical Three Lions side.

وقال أحمد الشناوي في تصريحات تلفزيونية عبر قناة “أون تايم سبورتس”: “ركلة الجزاء الأولى كان الفار رائعًا وأعاد الكرة للحكم، وتبين أن اليد خرجت عن الجسم وهي صحيحة”.

وأكمل: “عن ركلة الجزاء التي ألغيت للمصري، القانون يقول إن لمسة اليد لا تحتسب خطأ في حال إن كانت تدعم عدم سقوط اللاعب، لكن الكرة لمست يد محمود علاء الأخرى، والقرار هنا أنها ركلة جزاء صحيحة ولكن لم تُحتسب”.

وعن حالة طرد فرجاني ساسي؟، أجاب: “كان يوجد خطأ لم يُحتسب لصالحه، لكن ليس له الحق في رد الفعل بهذا الشكل، ومن وجهة نظري كان يستوجب الطرد المباشر”.

وأشهر أمين عمر حكم المباراة بطاقة صفراء لفرجاني ساسي بسبب الاعتراض، لكن اللاعب التونسي انفعل على الأول ليقرر إعطاءه الإنذار الثاني وطرده من اللقاء في الدقيقة 37 طالع فيديو طرد ساسي من هنا

وأوضح: “اللائحة تقول إن السلوك غير الرياضي عقوبته إيقاف 4 مباريات، وستكون 8 إذا تبين للجنة أن هناك اعتداء بالضرب”.

وواصل: “تم تحديد كلمة (الدفع) في اللائحة كعقوبة بالإيقاف ثماني مباريات، لكن هنا لم يرتق الأمر للدفع ومن الممكن أن يتم عقابه بأربعة مباريات فقط أو أكثر أو أقل بناءً على تقرير الحكم”.

واختتم: “ركلة الجزاء الثانية للزمالك صحيحة والإنذار مستحق، وعدم إعطاء مدافع المصري كارت أحمر قرار صحيح، لأن الكرة كانت خلف مهاجم الزمالك ولم تعد الفرصة محققة”.
