According to a report back in March, Everton and Director of Football Marcel Brands had two strikers, full-backs, a centre-back, a midfielder and a keeper on their summer transfer wishlist – one of those has already been ticked off with the arrival of Huddersfield stopper Jonas Lossl.

Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of that report is the fact that the Toffees want two strikers. Marco Silva already has Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun at his disposal, whilst Oumar Niasse is set to return from a loan spell at Cardiff.

The likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic and Danny Welbeck have already been strongly linked with a move to Goodison Park, but there’s no need to recruit two new front men after a decision Everton made earlier this month; the one to sign young Ellis Simms up to a first professional contract.

At just 18 years of age, Simms shone for Paul Tait’s Under-18 side in 2018/19 and netted a whopping 32 goals in just 21 games in the U18 Premier League, whilst also making his debut for David Unsworth’s title winning Under-23 side.

Despite his youthful age, Simms has shown remarkable ability to score goals. The wonderkid is already on the radar of Europe’s top clubs such as Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Monaco, and Silva certainly needs to start taking the teenager’s incredible talent seriously.

It has been reported that the Toffees are prepared to offer Welbeck a contract in excess of £100,000-a-week in order to lure him to Merseyside, whilst Mitrovic will assumingly cost upwards of the £22m Fulham spent on him just a year ago.

Perhaps Everton do need a bit of extra firepower to truly challenge the Premier League’s top sides, but Brands would be saving the club a wad of cash if he lined up Simms to fill one of the two striker slots on his alleged wish list.

Arsenal fans on Twitter have slammed owner Stan Kroenke after the Premier League prize money figures were released.

The Gunners’ fifth-place Premier League finish netted the club £142,193,180, yet many Arsenal supporters are sceptical that those funds will be utilised in the most productive way.

Unpopular owner Kroenke has been accused of putting himself before the club and lacking the ambition to properly invest, especially in the transfer market.

The American businessman also owns teams in the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLS, leading to questions about where his priorities lie.

Unai Emery’s side face the prospect of a slender summer transfer budget of just £40m should they miss out on Champions League football, with the Europa League final on May 29 the club’s last chance at earning a place in next season’s elite European competition.

After seeing the figures of Arsenal’s monstrous earnings, many fans are perplexed as to where that money is going with Kroenke identified as the main culprit.

£0. Nada. Zilch. That’s the total amount of money Tottenham have spent in the transfer window for the past eighteen months. And yet, Mauricio Pochettino’s side secured another top-four finish, opened the world’s shiniest new stadium, and are in the Champions League final this season. Whilst the club were expected to finally open up the chequebook this summer, perhaps no Spurs fan even in their wildest dream would have thought they would be willing to show their hand quite like a £53m bid for Giovani Lo Celso. If this is a sign of things to come over the next couple of months for the north London side, then 2019 could be the biggest year in the history of the club.

For all of Pochettino’s wonders with this side, even the Argentine has gone on record to say that the club need to be active in the transfer market in order to bridge the gap to the league’s top two. Top-four finishes are fine and dandy, but as those from the red half of north London will attest to, it all means nothing if trophies don’t come at the end of it. So by making a big-money bid for Lo Celso, the club are essentially killing two birds with one stone.

Not just are they attempting to sign one of the best midfielders in European football this season, but also a statement that they are ready to dine at the top table. No longer will they be the victim of another ‘Willian’, and seeing transfer targets slip away at the 11th hour and joining one of their big rivals. With Pochettino at the helm, and reaching a first Champions League final in their history, the club will be seen as a viable destination by many players now. The feeling before was always that Spurs weren’t even the most desirable option in north London, let alone the entire Premier League.

Indeed, whilst the £53m bid for Lo Celso could bring in an exciting young talent, the very intent in placing the bid could be huge in respect to something far bigger than any potential signing; the future of Pochettino himself. The former Southampton boss has been the subject of great speculation in recent months over potentially joining one of the elite sides in Europe, where he would be unrestrained by club finances. The 47-year-old even went so far as to admit that he would be prepared to walk away if he felt the club failed to match his ambition; that statement came in the aftermath of Spurs’ euphoric semi-final comeback against Ajax. It may be £53m for Lo Celso, but in the case of Pochettino, it would be priceless.

So whether Spurs do the unthinkable on Saturday or not, the bid for Lo Celso is very much a marker of things to come, and a potential ushering in of a glorious new era for the Lilywhites.

Loads of Sunderland fans have been reacting to a tweet from the club about Jack Ross, and it seems the Black Cats are divided over the achievements of his debut season on Wearside.

A lot has changed at the Stadium of Light over the last 12 months, and while the club is still toiling in the third tier of English football, things are certainly heading in the right direction.

Stewart Donald, together with Ross, has given the fans fresh optimism and united the players with their supporters.

However, it seems not everyone is impressed by Ross’ maiden campaign, as the Scot guided his team to a fifth-place finish and a gutting play-off final defeat.

On the one hand, turning just a few of the 19 league draws into wins would have meant automatic promotion and there would be zero doubts over Ross’ future.

One could argue though that with the size of the squad and budget afforded to the Scot he should have had automatic promotion wrapped up with ease.

The side also lost its identity after Christmas, finding it nigh on impossible to break teams down and score more than one goal in a match.

Supporters have thus been left split over their gaffer, and produced a mixed reaction when the club tweeted to wish him a happy 43rd birthday on Wednesday.

وتابع: “من حقك أن تكره شيكابالا، ولكن ليس من حقك التنمر عليه ومهاجمته بهذا الشكل”.

وأضاف: “البعض يقول لي لماذا لم تقل ذلك على ما تعرض له مؤمن زكريا من تنمر في 2015، أنا والله وقتها لم أر الفيديو، والسوشيال ميديا في وقتها لم تكن بهذه القوة، ومع ذلك فهو أمر غير مقبول ومرفوض ومن يفعلوا ذلك فئة ضالة”.

وواصل: “شيكابالا لم يفعل شيئًا بعد أن تمت معاقبته في لقاء السوبر وكل تركيزه مع الفريق فلماذا ما حدث معه؟!، وللأسف هناك شخصيات كبيرة سعيدة بما يحدث من أجل جمع الإعجابات ومتابعات من الجماهير ولكن هذا خطأ”.

وأتم: “من حقك أن تحتفل ولكن ليس من حقك أن تحمل كلب وتشبهه بإنسان وأن تذهب إلى المقابر وتقوم بفعل هذه الأفعال غير المقبولة وأيضا ما حدث مع مؤمن زكريا مرفوض ومن يفعلوا هذه الأفعال أشخاص غير اسوياء”.

اجتمع ظهر اليوم الدكتور اشرف صبحي وزير الشباب والرياضة مع اللجنة العليا المنظمة لبطولة العالم لليد 2021 وممثلي الوزارات المعنية بالبطولة للوقوف علي اخر الاستعدادات لتنظيم البطولة، بحضور الدكتور أحمد الشيخ المدير التنفيذي للمجلس القومي الرياضة ورئيس لجنة الإتصال الحكومى، والمهندس هشام نصر رئيس الاتحاد المصري لكرة اليد، والمهندس حسين لبيب مدير البطولة.

وتناول الاجتماع خطة نقل الجماهير من وإلى الصالات التي أصبحت جاهزة بشكل كامل، حيث سيتم النقل عن طريق توفير أتوبيسات مخصصة للبطولة في أماكن جارى تحديدها، بالإضافة إلى توفير ساحات لانتظار السيارات بجانب الصالات المستضيفة للبطولة، وعملية دخول وخروج الجماهير، بالإضافة إلى الإجراءات الاحترازية والتدابير الوقائية اللازمة لتأمين الفرق والمنتخبات الرياضية والجماهير.

واستمع وزير الرياضة لممثلي الوزرات المعنية، عن مدى استعداداتهم للبطولة، حيث تم استعراض الخطة السياحية التي تم وضعها للسائحين، بالاضافة الى مقترح بإعداد كتيب عن استعدادات مصر لتنظيم بطولة كاس العالم لليد وإنجازات كرة اليد المصرية، والتعريف بالفرق والوفود المشاركة بالبطولة باللغات المختلفة.

وأشار إلى الاستعداد التام من كافة الوزرات للمساهمة في انجاح هذا الحدث الرياضي الكبير الذي سيؤكد على أن مصر بالفعل اصبحت قبلة الاتحادات الرياضية، وجاذبة للأحداث والفعاليات العالمية.

English Premier League clubs are circling around Celtic’s Callum McGregor this summer, as reported by The Scotsman.

What’s the story?

McGregor has been one of the Hoops’ most important players over the last three years and has a case to be considered as the best player in Scottish football right now.

No surprise then that a number of clubs are interested in his services, with The Scotsman reporting that Leicester City, Brighton and Watford are all monitoring his situation.

The paper reckon the interest from Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester is at a stage where a bid could be lodged in the comings weeks, with the Hoops said to value the player at around £10m.

McGregor’s real valuation

If Celtic sell the player for that kind of price they’ll be selling themselves very short. It’s not a realistic valuation for a player at the club who can be a mainstay for years to come.

The sale of Moussa Dembele to Lyon last summer set a new bar in terms of outgoing player fees, and it can’t be argued that the Frenchman was more important to the Hoops than McGregor has been.

He’s the midfield fulcrum around which Celtic’s entire game is played and even when sitting in a deeper role he can dictate all of the team’s play going forward.

With composure, technical passing ability, vision and creativity, alongside pace and physicality when needed, he’s a midfield all-rounder that Neil Lennon must build a team around next season.

Celtic should be expecting any team to double that reported £10m valuation before even entertaining the notion of him being sold.

With his contract not expiring until 2023, there is absolutely no rush when it comes to selling him.
