Os 27 jogos sem perder na temporada e a liderança com folga no Campeonato Brasileiro encheram o torcedor do Corinthians de confiança. No início da noite desta sexta-feira, o clube divulgou que os mais de 40.500 ingressos colocados à venda para o jogo contra o Atlético-PR estão esgotados. Assim, o Timão terá casa cheia no embate deste sábado, às 19h, na Arena de Itaquera.

Até o início da manhã, o número de ingressos vendidos ultrapassava os 34 mil, mas cerca de seis mil pessoas aproveitaram o dia para garantir entradas para o jogo nos postos de venda autorizados e pelos sites do programa Fiel Torcedor e Ingressos Corinthians. Este último endereço eletrônico, aliás, receberá até 11h de sábado o retorno de ingressos reservados, mas não pagos dentro do prazo estipulado.

Depois de jogar contra a Ponte Preta com o Setor Norte interditado por conta de uma punição por uso de sinalizadores pela torcida, o Corinthians volta a ter o espaço no embate diante do Atlético-PR.

Para a torcida do Furacão, a venda ocorrerá por R$ 100 (R$ 50 a meia-entrada) somente neste sábado, duas horas antes do início da partida.

Sri Lanka’s new captain Kumar Sangakkara has asked the players to do more to improve their own performances. “I will be stressing to the players the individual responsibility they must take on to improve and develop their games,” Sangakkara said. “We need to make full use of the quality facilities and support staff we are fortunate enough have around us, to become better players and a stronger team.”Sangakkara, 31, who was appointed as captain on Wednesday, said his immediate focus was on the World Twenty20 series in England and building on the success of the last skipper, Mahela Jayawardene.Sangakkara, who was the vice-captain for three years and has played 80 Tests and 246 ODIs, was always the frontrunner to succeed Mahela Jayawardene, who stepped down as captain at the end of the two-Test series in Pakistan earlier this month.Sangakkara also hailed Muttiah Muralitharan’s appointment as his deputy and said the spinner would be a guiding light for the team. “Murali’s inspirational leadership and vast experience, coupled with his great integrity and complete trustworthiness, made him the ideal choice as vice-captain,” Sangakkara said.With the Pakistan series being cancelled after the terrorist attack on their team bus in Lahore, Sri Lanka do not have any international engagements till the World Twenty20 in June. ولكن توجد عقبتان أمام تشيلسي من أجل التعاقد مع إدواردز وهي أن النادي مُتعجل في تعيين الإنجليزي وأن مايكل اعترف بعد رحيله عن ليفربول أنه يرغب في البقاء لعام واحد على الأقل بدون عمل قبل العودة إلى العمل الإداري من جديد.

An update has emerged regarding Newcastle’s interest in Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

According to Football Insider, the Tyneside club have identified the Senegal defender as their top transfer target for the January transfer window.

The report claimed that the Magpies want to sign the 30-year-old to bolster their squad following PIF’s takeover of the club earlier this week.

Fans would love him

PIF could raise the roof at St James’ Park with a deal to sign Koulibaly in January. The 30-year-old is vastly experienced at the top level and one of the best-performing players in Serie A during his time with Napoli in Italy.

He was named in the divisional team of the season in four consecutive years, proving himself to be one of the best centre-backs in the country. The defender has played 292 competitive matches for Napoli since moving from Genk in 2014.

In Serie A this season, Koulibaly has averaged an excellent SofaScore rating of 7.46 in seven starts. He has scored two goals from centre-back whilst winning 59% of his duels and helping Napoli to keep four clean sheets in those matches.

To reaffirm the point on his quality, Serie A expert Conor Clancy hailed the Napoli man as a contender for the second-best centre-back in world football earlier this year, behind Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk. 

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, he said of Koulibaly: “He improves any team he goes to. He’s phenomenal. I’d say, to be honest, after Virgil van Dijk, he is in the conversation for being the second-best defender in the world.”

This comment from Clancy, along with Koulibaly’s aforementioned pedigree, shows why Newcastle fans would adore him. The Magpies faithful would surely love to see the Senegalese colossus lining up in the Premier League for their club, as he has proven himself to be a top defender in European football.

Imagine the noise which would erupt from the stands at St James’ Park when “Making his debut today… Kalidou Koulibaly” is proclaimed by the announcer reading out the starting XI on his debut for the club. It could raise the roof off the stadium and create an incredible atmosphere full of excited supporters ready to enjoy the start of a new chapter on Tyneside.

Therefore, PIF must ensure that they do all they can to get a deal over the line for the centre-back in January. His arrival could be heralded by fans and make sure that the Saudi-based consortium get off to the best possible start in the transfer market.

O atacante Bill não balançou as redes na partida, mas contribuiu com duas assistências e foi decisivo para a equipe conquistar os três pontos em casa e alcançar a liderança – agora soma 30 pontos em 16 partidas no torneio. O Alviverde irá dormir nesta noite na ponta da Série B de forma provisória. O time mineiro terá de secar o Guarani e Juventude, que jogam neste sábado contra CRB e Oeste, respectivamente. Norberto, Luan, Ruy e Messias anotaram para o time da casa, enquanto Nicolas Careca e Henan para os catarinenses.

In a game reduced by rain to 29 overs a side, Flintoff’s efforts followed on from a run-a-ball 48 from Kevin Pietersen, as England came from behind to claim an unexpected 3-2 series win.It has been a tough winter for all of England’s cricketers, but Flintoff has had it harder than most – his struggle for runs continued today when he was brilliantly caught at midwicket for 3, and having missed the mid-part of the tour with a hip complaint, it’s hard to escape the fitness cloud that hangs over his career. But, when he’s injury-free he’s arguably the most irresistible bowler in the world game, and he proved that today with a performance that blew away both England’s opponents, as well as the fog of gloom that has been hanging around the squad in recent weeks.Set a testing but by no means unattainable 173 to win, West Indies’ prospects suffered an immediate set-back when their man of the moment, Chris Gayle, fell for a third-ball duck to the newly unveiled Wisden Cricketer of the Year, James Anderson. But as so often happens, Pietersen’s dismissal destabilised the innings. Bopara looked to be finding his range when he twice pulled Sammy over square leg for six, but having reached 44 from 48 balls, he tried the shot once too often, this time against Pollard, and Ramdin had all the time in the world to wander round from behind the stumps to claim a steepling top-edge.From that moment on, West Indies claimed the ascendancy through their battery of slower bowlers. Owais Shah tried to apply some oomph, but his aggressive swipe at Benn picked out Simmons at long-on, before Flintoff, in terrible form with the ball, clipped Pollard to midwicket where Chanderpaul dived full-length to his right to intercept another pull.Edwards, whose pacy two-over burst had disappeared for 17, was ignored as Gayle brought his teasingly slow spinners into the action, and England’s sixth-wicket pair of Collingwood and Matt Prior groped their way to seven runs in 3.1 overs before calling upon their batting Powerplay. Duly liberated, Collingwood heaved Pollard over square leg for six in an over that went for 14, England’s best of the innings.A frustrated Prior eventually found his range with three fours in a run-a-ball 25, and Collingwood cleverly worked the ball through fine leg in a final over that went for 13 to give England a chance. Celtic chiefs have been left unimpressed at the Republic of Ireland’s treatment of Hoops defender Liam Scales, according to Extra.ie.

The Lowdown: Scales’ international break

Scales was a late inclusion in Stephen Kenny’s squad for a World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan and a friendly with Qatar after replacing Swansea City’s Ryan Manning who withdrew through injury.

Ireland won both games without conceding, however, Scales didn’t feature in either.

He made the 6,400-mile round-trip from Dublin to Baku for the meeting with Azerbaijan but was left out of the squad and also didn’t make the team sheet at home to Qatar.

The Latest: Hoops not happy

Extra.ie shared a story on Thursday, looking at Kenny’s future as manager.

Towards the end of their report, they suggested that Celtic aren’t happy with the FAI with their treatment of Scales after not using him in a matchday squad following a late call-up.

The Verdict: Not ideal

Scales has made just one Celtic appearance following his £540,000 move from Shamrock Rovers in the summer, so his international break appears to have been a waste of time.

He’s made a long journey to sit around and is still awaiting his first cap for Ireland. It would’ve made more sense for Scales to have remained at Lennoxtown to work with Ange Postecoglou ahead of the first game back against Motherwell, which could have helped him force his way into the manager’s Parkhead plans.

Brad Haddin, the stand-in captain, felt his side was already on the plane home following the tough one-day series, and they were dismissed for 108 before going down by seven wickets.However, Haddin was pleased with the effort of Lee, who had figures of 1 for 22 from four overs in a promising start following five months out with foot and ankle problems. “It was good to see the return of Brett Lee and if tonight’s any indication of how he’s going to go it looks like he is going to come back with some pretty good pace,” Haddin told AAP after the match.Lee’s first ball was recorded at 149kph and gained an edge from Salman Butt, but it went for four when Marcus North couldn’t hold the catch in the cordon. “I think it shocked the slips a bit, just how quick it did come through,” Haddin said. “It was good to see.” Lee’s wicket came when Ahmed Shehzad miscued a pull and was caught by a diving Ben Laughlin.While Lee came through the match and will now head to South Africa for the IPL, Shane Watson will fly home after injuring his groin.
