Assim, a provável formação do Palmeiras tem: Weverton (Jailson); Mayke, Gustavo Gómez, Luan e Diogo Barbosa; Felipe Melo, Moisés e Lucas Lima; Carlos Eduardo, Felipe Pires e Borja.

– Deu bastante certo no ano passado, no Campeonato Brasileiro.

Base do Brasileiro mantida

Allenby gives Glamorgan control

Jim Allenby scored an unbeaten half century to put Glamorgan in a handy position at the end of the second day of their match against Worcestershire in Cardiff

Jim Allenby scored an unbeaten half century to put Glamorgan in a handy position at the end of the second day of their County Championship Division Two match against Worcestershire in Cardiff.Allenby scored 71 not out with the Welsh county finishing on 235 for 7 – a lead of 112 – after Worcestershire were bowled out for only 123 on the first day. There were also useful contributions from opener Ben Wright (40) and Marcus North (48) in a low-scoring contest, while Worcestershire seam duo Alan Richardson and Gareth Andrew claimed three wickets apiece. An hour’s play was lost to rain in the middle of the morning session and when the players returned to the middle Andrew made the breakthrough by bowling Will Bragg to leave Glamorgan 22 for 1. Andrew was on target again after lunch, trapping Stewart Walters in front straight after the right-hander had cover driven the bowler for 4.North and Wright gave the Glamorgan innings some impetus by putting on a valuable 59 for the third wicket. Glamorgan had reached the 100-mark but, in the next over, Wright pushed forward and edged behind to give Richardson his first wicket.Former Sussex batsman Murray Goodwin still has to make double figures at the start of his Glamorgan career and he went for only 1 when he was caught at point by Neil Pinner to leave the home side 114 for 3.Allenby duly dispatched David Lucas for successive fours through the covers asGlamorgan went into the lead just before tea. Resuming the evening session on 134 for 4, North looked certain to get his half century but he was two short of the target as he went leg before to Richardson.Glamorgan skipper Mark Wallace only made one from 11 balls before edging Andrewbehind. But the Glamorgan seventh-wicket pair of Allenby and Graham Wagg proved moreuseful. Allenby registered the first 50 by a Glamorgan player this season and also brought up his side’s first batting point of the summer. The second new ball accounted for Wagg who top-edged Richardson to Lucas endinga 63-run partnership with Allenby. Dean Cosker did a good job of guiding Glamorgan to the close with no further scares as the first innings lead went to three figures.

Taylor hitting form at the right time

James Taylor and Steven Mullaney added the meat to Nottinghamshire’s total, but some loose shots meant the home side did not get away from Durham

George Dobell at Trent Bridge29-Apr-2013

When you’re not much over five feet tall, being overlooked comes with the territory.Certainly James Taylor could be forgiven for feeling that way. Despite making a decent fist of his baptism in Test cricket – the 147 he added with Kevin Pietersen on debut at Headingley was England’s highest fifth-wicket stand against South Africa since they were readmitted into Test cricket – he was dropped just one game later and then omitted from the senior squads to tour India or New Zealand. To rub salt in the wound, he was then omitted from the 30-man performance squad named by the ECB at the start of this summer. Not only were the England management unconvinced by his ability outside off stump, but there were rumours that one of Taylor’s England colleagues in that Headingley Test made no attempt to conceal his own surprise at the batsman’s early elevation to Test cricket. It wasn’t easy being JT in that dressing room. But Taylor – who, to be fair, claims to be five foot six (but much in the way that Father Ted used to claim the money was “resting in his account”) – continues to make a persuasive case for a recall. Following a century in his previous innings against Derbyshire he came within three runs of recording another here and produced the most solid batting of a day on which 11 wickets fell. While some might explain away a first-class career average of 47.71 by stating that many of those runs were made in Division Two of the Championship, his record for England Lions is excellent – he averages 61.60 in first-class cricket for them and 38.20 in List A cricket – and, if his technique is unusual, his record suggests it is also highly effective. While the watching national selector, Geoff Miller, cannot have been totally assured of Taylor’s ability on the off side – two third of his runs came on the leg side and he was beaten outside off on several occasions – he can only have been impressed by the application shown by the diminutive 23-year-old.On a day on which several batsmen played a large part in their own downfall, Taylor fought hard and produced a number of pleasing strokes to fully justify his place in the England Lions team to play New Zealand at his previous club, Leicestershire, that was announced during the day’s play.”I’ve had some good chats with Geoff Miller,” Taylor said afterwards. “I know it’s down to me to score runs and it will be nice to go back to Grace Road and do well against an international attack. My game can definitely work at Test level. Sachin Tendulkar is the same height as me. Just look at my record: I’ve scored hundreds against very decent attacks.”I felt very comfortable when I played Test cricket; the only problem was the experience was a bit brief. I know I didn’t express myself as much as I would have liked, but that was dictated by the match situation which dictated that someone had to dig in.”This was another day for digging in. While Taylor did take Ben Stokes for three successive fours at one stage – two pulls and a drive – he was generally content to accumulate and played a supporting role to the fluent Steven Mullaney in a fifth-wicket stand of 111. Mullaney contributed 80; Taylor just 24.Broad calms injury worries

Stuart Broad was forced to leave the field after bowling just three overs in Nottinghamshire’s County Championship match against Durham. Broad edged the ball into his groin while batting earlier in the day and later felt some tightness in the area when he started to bowl.

His first over cost 12 and, after two more, he left the pitch as a precaution and will be assessed before the second day’s play before any decision is made about his participation in the rest of this game. He later tweeted: “Got hit in the groin while batting. Nothing major will be bowling 1st thing 2moro.”

When Taylor eventually fell, pushing at an arm ball well outside off stump, he became Gareth Breese’s first Championship wicket since September 2008 and only his second since 2006. Breese, playing ahead of Keaton Jennings, has played only five Championship games in six seasons, which perhaps says more about Durham’s confidence in Scott Borthwick’s leg-spin than it does anything else. While Taylor reckoned Nottinghamshire’s final total was “about par”, Durham will be disappointed to have allowed them to score so many. They put down five chances in all, with Stokes, usually so reliable, missing four of varying degrees of difficulty. Will Smith put down the other. Most of the misses proved expensive. Ed Cowan, who went on to score 40, was reprieved on 4, Mullaney was missed on 6 and Stuart Broad, who made 46, survived chances on 1 and 7. A crude calculation would suggest the drops cost Durham 157 runs.Graham Onions, as reliable as ever, was the unfortunate bowler on several occasions, but Mark Wood – preferred to Callum Thorp – was just as impressive. Decidedly brisk, he beat Taylor with successive deliveries on off stump and dismissed Mullaney, flashing outside off stump to the first ball of a spell, and Chris Read, beaten for pace and bounce as he attempted to drive. In Stokes, who also bowled with good pace, and Wood, Durham possess a pair of outstandingly talented young allrounders.Earlier Alex Hales left a straight one, Cowan’s pleasing innings ended when he uncharacteristically failed to move his feet to a drive and edged to gully, before Michael Lumb was struck on the foot by a yorker and Samit Patel guided the ball before lunch – a long hop – to point as obligingly as a coach providing catching practice. While Mullaney batted with pleasing fluency – he drove Breese for sixes from successive balls at one stage – and Broad thrashed about with characteristic abandon – he, too, struck two sixes and, at one stage, four fours in six deliveries – Nottinghamshire could have done with a little more of Taylor’s determination if they were to have built a match-defining position.

Can 'young' Pakistan still pose a threat?

Pakistan’s relatively inexperienced batsmen will find themselves tested in English conditions. However, their strong pace-bowling attack gives them a definitive advantage

Umar Farooq05-Jun-2013OverviewPakistan are known for their mercurial performances but their record in ICC tournaments is impressive, having made the semi-finals in the last six events. Their previous outing in England was successful as they lifted the 2009 World Twenty20. However, their squad for the 2013 Champions Trophy is a relatively low-profile one, missing players including Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi, Younis Khan and Umar Gul.Although they are led by 39-year-old Misbah-ul-Haq, the tournament’s oldest player, the squad is young. The bowling attack is a blend of lively left-arm pacers, including the 7’1″ tall Mohammad Irfan, Junaid Khan and Wahab Riaz, backed by the two right-armers, Asad Ali and Ehsan Adil. Offspinner Saeed Ajmal is the most experienced bowler in the side.Gul’s absence due to a knee injury is a big loss for Pakistan, however, even though he hasn’t been at his best recently. The onus will be on Junaid as the strike seamer, and he will draw on his experience in English conditions when he briefly played for Lancashire last year.Pakistan’s batting and technique will be under scrutiny•AFP

However, Pakistan’s batting and fielding will be under the microscope. Nasir Jamshed and Imran Farhat are the potential openers but top-order collapses have often been the cause of Pakistan’s downfall, piling the pressure on the middle order. The selectors made a bold decision to drop the out-of-form Younis Khan and focus on youth instead. In the current line-up, Shoaib Malik brings experience to the middle order, playing alongside youngsters, including Asad Shafiq and Umar Amin. Pakistan have also appointed the Australian, Trent Woodhill as their batting coach for the Champions Trophy. The squad had a six-day camp in Abbottabad, at an altitude of 1260m in a bid to replicate the conditions in the UK. The camp, boosted by the presence of Wasim Akram and Javed Miandad, focused more on fitness and batting skills. They began their tour of England with two ODIs each against Scotland and Ireland and played a tied game against the latter in Dublin.Key playerPakistan will look to Mohammad Hafeez to provide strong starts at the top of the order. He takes time to settle in but once set, can score fluently. He struggled against Dale Steyn in South Africa but bounced back to score a hundred against Ireland earlier this month. Over the last 12 months, he has scored 519 runs and is the second-highest run-scorer in ODIs for Pakistan in that period.Surprise packageAsad Ali. The right-arm seamer has done well under Misbah in domestic cricket with Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited and Faisalabad Wolves this year. When Pakistan’s more experienced bowlers were leaking runs against Ireland, Ali stood out with economical figures of 1 for 22 off ten overs, including four maidens. He might not have express pace but his ability to hit the deck hard and bowl a decent line has made him a surprise prospect for Pakistan in English conditions. Another thing to look forward to is Misbah’s new-found aggression in his batting, which was on view during the domestic T20 – he finished as the leading run-scorer with 206 runs at a strike-rate of 140.13, smashing 12 sixes.WeaknessThe team’s batting and technique in English conditions will be under scrutiny. Pakistan have made some changes at the top of the order to negotiate the new ball, demoting Hafeez down to No.3 but the question is if the rest can maintain the momentum. With Afridi absent, there is no real fire-power in the lower order and much will depend on Kamran Akmal.Champions Trophy historyPakistan have featured in three semi-finals, beaten by New Zealand (in 2000 and 2009) and West Indies (2004). They failed to progress beyond the group stages in 1998, 2002 and 2006. In the last edition in 2009, a crucial dropped catch cost them a place in the final. However, they have an unbeaten record against India in the Champions Trophy (2-0), in contrast to the head-to-head record in the World Cup and World T20.Recent formRanked No.6, Pakistan haven’t been impressive in the last 12 months, winning nine and losing eight out of 19 ODIs. They were tested against Ireland in both games. The first one ended in a tie, while the second game saw the visitors recover from a batting collapse to scrape home by two wickets.
