Man Utd have already signed a "beast" who could be their new McTominay

One of the biggest success stories a Manchester United academy graduate has had since leaving the club is, without doubt, Scott McTominay.

The Scotland international has shone for his new club Napoli and played a crucial role in getting his country to the 2026 World Cup.

The 28-year-old has played 50 games for the Italian giants now, scoring 17 goals and assisting seven in that time. He became a club hero by helping guide them to the Scudetto title last season, winning the Serie A MVP award and earning himself a Ballon d’Or nomination in the process.

Ruben Amorim never got the chance to work with him at United, but it would have been fascinating to know how he’d have utilised him.

How Amorim could have used McTominay at Man Utd

It is interesting to note that under Antonio Conte in Naples, McTominay has operated in a few different roles. He’s played as a number ten, a box-crashing number eight and even off the left-hand side.

Well, had Amorim got the chance to coach the Scot, he may have used him as a number ten in his infamous 3-4-2-1 system. The United academy graduate has great instincts in the box and excels at occupying the centre-backs.

If he were to play high up under Amorim, the chances are he’d be spending more time in the box.

Of course, the other area McTominay would naturally fit in Amorim’s system would be as a number eight. In this role, he could still have crashed the box, making late runs to get on the end of crosses from the wing-backs.

Off the ball, his physicality would have been a handful. That is perhaps best showcased by his 1.85 aerial duels won per 90 minutes over the last year, placing him in the top 11% of midfielders across Europe’s big five leagues.

Of course, we’ll never truly know how McTominay would have fitted in under Amorim, but there is a player in the academy who could be seen as the Portuguese manager’s own version.

Amorim’s in-house Scott McTominay

Over the years, United’s esteemed academy, Carrington, has produced some exceptional talent. McTominay is one of the modern examples, and the Red Devils have some brilliant talent coming through still.

In The Pipeline

Football FanCast’s In the Pipeline series aims to uncover the very best youth players in world football.

One of those is Sekou Kone, a man who could be viewed as the second coming of McTominay.

The Malian youth international is seen by football scout Antonio Mango as a player who can be “a beast under Ruben Amorim.”

At 19 years of age, Kone has already been involved in first-team squads thanks to United’s manager, who clearly sees talent in him to give him that opportunity. The midfielder was an unused substitute for three Premier League games last season.

As for his performances in the academy, the five-foot-nine midfielder has shown good versatility and an eye for goal. He’s played 14 games for the Red Devils’ under-21 side, scoring twice and operating as a number ten and in the pivot, just as McTominay has shown for Napoli.

The competition in which Kone truly announced himself was the Under-17 World Cup back in 2023.

He helped steer Mali to third place and was one of the standout players in the competition, creating 10 chances and grabbing two assists.

It will certainly be interesting to see how far down the line we are from Kone’s first-team debut.

The 19-year-old could operate in a few different roles, and his ability to have an effect in the final third might pique Amorim’s interest.

It is easy to see how he is the second coming of McTominay. A versatile midfielder who can be physically dominant, despite having a smaller frame than the Scot, and someone able to score goals.

He is certainly an exciting prospect for Amorim and United.

Bayer Leverkusen will remember Man City victory 'for a long time' as coach Kasper Hjulmand praises players for surprise Champions League giant-killing

Bayer Leverkusen stunned Manchester City with a memorable 2-0 Champions League win on Tuesday, punishing Pep Guardiola’s heavily rotated side with a disciplined and fearless performance. Kasper Hjulmand’s team pulled off a surprise victory at the Etihad Stadium as they outplayed the European giants, who were left to reflect on a risky selection that backfired badly.

  • Leverkusen punish Guardiola’s gamble with historic victory

City stepped onto the pitch expecting a routine Champions League outing, but Guardiola marked his 100th game in the competition with the club by fielding a heavily rotated XI, a gamble that backfired badly. The Catalan coach made 10 changes, resting Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Ruben Dias, and his second-string side struggled from the opening minutes.

Leverkusen seized control instantly. Alex Grimaldo fired the visitors ahead with a superb strike, and Patrick Schick doubled the lead with a smart header in the second half. Guardiola responded by bringing on Jeremy Doku, Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki and eventually Haaland, but the damage had been done. Even the Norwegian striker couldn’t change the momentum, missing City’s clearest chances late on.

As the final whistle approached, the mood inside the Etihad shifted dramatically, a stunned home crowd witnessing one of City’s most surprising defeats in the Guardiola era, paving the way for Hjulmand’s proud post-match message.

    Hjulmand overjoyed with Leverkusen’s courage

Hjulmand spoke with clear emotion after one of the biggest wins of his coaching career, praising his squad’s bravery and execution against one of the most dominant teams in Europe. He highlighted how the result reflected the team’s spirit and belief, elements he insists have been building with every match.

“This is a night we will remember for a long time,” said the Dane after the unexpected 2-0 win. “I am very proud of the team and the way we played. We showed a lot of courage. Great respect for my players. We played against one of the best teams in Europe and had to find our philosophy. I think we have done that.”

He added: "Hopefully, this victory will give us clarity about what we want to achieve and fuel our development. We can still achieve a lot. We can still improve. I think we're seeing a team that's growing together from game to game. This potential is fantastic for me. It makes me very optimistic about this project."

  • Guardiola takes responsibility after rotation gamble fails

Guardiola’s post-match reaction was one of accountability, with the City manager openly admitting that his rotation the most dramatic of his Champions League career was a mistake.

"I take full responsibility," Pep said. "Too many changes. I always had the belief it’s a long season and everyone has to be involved but maybe it was too much. It was the first time in my life I’ve done it and it was too much. I take responsibility but I saw them and I like everyone to be involved."

"When you are a football player and don’t play for five, six, seven games it’s tough but maybe it was too much. Always I like to be too nice and involve everyone because I have the feeling after the international break there are games every three or four days and there is no human being who can sustain that. We were at home, in a good position in the Champions League and I thought ‘let’s try and let’s have weapons on the bench’. It didn’t work and we have to accept it."

Leverkusen boost qualification hopes after statement win

The victory lands Leverkusen a huge advantage in their push for the knockout phase. After a shaky start to their European campaign – two draws, followed by a heavy 7-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, doubts had begun to spread about their ability to progress. Few expected City to be the opponent that restored faith.

Hjulmand’s side, however, produced their most complete performance of the season, and with eight points from five matches, they are firmly on course for the last 16. The result also arrives at a critical moment, improving morale before they shift attention back to the Bundesliga and a key clash against Borussia Dortmund.

Red Sox Prospect Roman Anthony Sneaks Out of Minor League Game Like Taylor Swift

Boston Red Sox top prospect Roman Anthony is going to be in the spotlight quite a bit.

Considered to be one of the top prospects in all of baseball, and with his call-up to the majors likely coming soon, he’s getting quite the reception from fans attending his games with the Triple A Worcester Red Sox.

Apparently, that attention has become so great in recent days that it is sometimes necessary to sneak him out of the ballpark and onto the team bus. In a video shared to social media, Anthony could be seen hiding in an equipment trolley covered in gear as he rolled out past fans waiting for an autograph.

Have you seen those videos of how Taylor Swift sneaks onto the stage when there are 100,000 people waiting and watching to get their first glimpse of her? Basically the same thing here, as the team jokingly referenced this in their post of the great escape.

To his credit, there are also plenty of videos of Anthony making time for fans and autographing as needed. It seems that the trip in the laundry cart was either a true necessity to keep the show moving, or maybe just a fun bit of team bonding.

Either way, it worked.

Red Sox fans are hoping Anthony’s next trip—whether in a car, plane, train or laundry cart—ends with him in the majors.

West Ham lodge potential new bid for Brazilian who they nearly signed in 2024

West Ham could now be back in for a former transfer target who they were on the verge of signing for Julen Lopetegui in 2024, according to a new report.

West Ham poised for active January transfer window

According to recent reports, the Hammers are poised for an active January transfer window amid their battle against relegation, and could sign a defender, midfielder and striker for Nuno Espírito Santo.

Reliable club insiders like ExWHUemployee have backed this up as we fast approach the turn of the year, while former West Ham scout Mick Brown has claimed that Nuno is planning a major overhaul.

West Ham have undergone a mini revival under Nuno recently, losing just one of their last six Premier League games, but it is clear they need strength in depth across the pitch.

Niclas Füllkrug is set to leave the London Stadium in January following his lacklustre stint in England, so West Ham are believed to be looking at strikers to replace him.

West Ham’s results in the Premier League so far

Sunderland 3-0 West Ham

West Ham 1-5 Chelsea

Nottingham Forest 0-3 West Ham

West Ham 0-3 Tottenham

West Ham 1-2 Crystal Palace

Everton 1-1 West Ham

Arsenal 2-0 West Ham

West Ham 0-2 Brentford

Leeds 2-1 West Ham

West Ham 3-1 Newcastle

West Ham 3-2 Burnley

Bournemouth 2-2 West Ham

West Ham 0-2 Liverpool

Man United 1-1 West Ham

Brighton 1-1 West Ham

In terms of the midfield area, James Ward-Prowse, Guido Rodriguez and Lucas Paqueta have all been linked with mid-season exits, so the prospect of a new name in the engine room hasn’t been ruled out either.

Meanwhile, Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell is back on the club’s radar after coming close to joining in the summer, with the Irons planning to ‘reignite’ talks for his signature (ExWHUemployee).

Sticking at centre-back, West Ham could now be back in the hunt for a familiar name — Cruzeiro centre-back Fabricio Bruno.

The 29-year-old made 51 appearances in all competitions for Cruzeiro in the recently-concluded 2025 Brazilian campaign, and his recent form has even earned him a recall to Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad.

Bruno featured in all of Brazil’s last three friendlies against Japan, Senegal and Tunisia, with the towering defender well in contention to be selected for next year’s World Cup.

Belief West Ham have rebid for Fabricio Bruno after near-2024 move

The former Flamengo stalwart was actually on the verge of joining West Ham in 2024.

Fabrizio Romano even gave his famous ‘here we go’ to the transfer and claimed he would be Lopetegui’s first defensive signing, but the transfer ended up collapsing.

Now, as per South American journalist Jorge Nicola, there is every reason to believe West Ham may have rebid for Bruno.

According to his information, a mystery English club has submitted a £13 million offer for the player, and Nicola theorises that the most likely candidate is Nuno’s side given their very advanced talks nearly two years ago.

Bruno’s move to West Ham apparently didn’t happen because of the player’s salary demands, but the Premier League door may now be back open following what has been a stellar 2025 for him.

Former Arsenal and Chelsea defender David Luiz, who was on the books with Bruno at Flamengo, once said he has the ‘quality to play for any team in the world’.

However, given Cruzeiro only signed him in early 2025, they may be reluctant to part ways.

Lamine Yamal's father accused of 'provoking Real Betis fans' in tense exchange that forced security to intervene during Barcelona win

Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal's father has been accused of 'provoking Real Betis fans' in a tense exchange during the club's win in La Liga on Saturday. Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick, while Yamal and Roony Bardghji were also on target as the Catalan giants clinched an eight-goal thriller and extended their lead over second-placed Real Madrid to four points.

  • Yamal shines with a goal in Barca's win

Yamal started in Hansi Flick's starting lineup against Betis, alongside Marcus Rashford and Torres as veteran forward Robert Lewandowski was rested for the clash. Torres stole the limelight for the visitors as he scored a first half hat-trick after Manchester United flop Antony handed the hosts an early lead. Young summer signing Roony Bardghji also scored in the first half, bagging his first La Liga goal, as the Catalan giants enjoyed a 4-1 lead at the break.

Around the hour mark, Barcelona won a penalty and Yamal took the spot-kick to further extend his team's lead. Diego Llorente and Cucho Hernandez scored a couple of late goals but the defending champions finally emerged victorious and walked away with a crucial three points.

Yamal's father clashed with home fans

While the teenager's performance on the pitch was excellent, his father landed himself in trouble after reportedly clashing with Real Betis fans at the stadium. According to the situation in the stands, where Yamal's father was seated, turned hostile after he deliberately provoked home supporters surrounding him near his seat.

He reportedly made gestures, which in turn angered the local fans as they became hostile, leading to heckling and tense moments. A stadium security officer had to intervene and he could be clearly seen approaching Yamal's father to ask him to calm down. Yago, though, later claimed (via ): "I just asked my friend who's there, and he said that for the moment things have calmed down, but there was a moment when he even thought something might happen."

  • Yamal declared La Liga Player of the Month

The Spanish sensation delivered a dominant run of form across Barcelona’s four La Liga fixtures in November, scoring against Elche, Celta Vigo and Deportivo Alaves while adding two assists in the Catalan side’s emphatic win over Athletic Club. Yamal’s standout moments included a two-assist display on Barcelona’s return to Camp Nou and another goal-and-assist performance against Alaves to close out the month.

Yamal's decisive impact in each fixture reinforced the sense that he had fully rediscovered rhythm and confidence after recent injury struggles. The 18-year-old's explosive contributions helped Barcelona win every league match during the month, propelling him past rivals including Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann in the final vote for La Liga's Player of the Month for November. The teenager's final November tally of three goals and three assists extended his league-leading creative total to eight assists.

    Yamal loving success at Barcelona

At just 18, Yamal is already a generational talent who is destined to achieve great success in his professional career. He has already drawn comparisons with Argentina and Barcelona legend Lionel Messi for his exceptional talent and goalscoring ability.

Speaking about the success he has achieved thus far, the youngster said: "Where I used to play, in my neighbourhood, there were walls where people would sit and there was no better feeling than getting the people who were sitting there to stand up and laugh at the opponents. I think it’s the best feeling in the world and something that reminds me of that a lot is when I’m playing on the field and the fans get up and are surprised by a play I’ve made. I can’t feel pressure when playing football. I just try to enjoy it. I think that my friends and family have been through harder things than me just playing football.

"Football is everything to me. It’s the first love of my life and it will remain so. It’s one of the sports where everyone is on an equal footing. I don’t think I’ve ever felt pressure playing football. My parents faced real pressure as young parents. Managing family, work, being happy, and buying gifts… that’s real pressure for me."

Garrett Crochet Reveals Why He Opted Out of Pitching in 2025 MLB All-Star Game

Boston Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet will not pitch in the 2025 All-Star Game next week, MLB announced on Friday. He will be replaced with Detroit Tigers pitcher Casey Mize on the American League roster.

Ahead of the Red Sox's matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays from Fenway Park on Friday, the pitcher explained why:

"For me, it’s just looking at my past four years," Crochet said, via of MassLive's Chris Cotillo. "In 2022, I threw zero innings. In ‘23, I threw 13. Last year, I threw 146. And this year I’m on pace for 200. From my standpoint, it makes no sense to make that 201 to throw in a game that doesn’t determine my team’s fate throughout the season.

"It’s a huge honor to be [selected]," he continued. "I threw last year—with it being my first one. If I were to go next year, I would probably throw. But just with the way my continued growth is, and my workload ceiling, I’d rather not add to it."

Crochet also mentioned that Boston's current spot in the AL playoff hunt impacted his decision to forgo the All-Star Game.

Through 19 starts and 120.1 innings pitched this season, Crochet is 9-4 with a 2.39 ERA while leading MLB in strikeouts with 151. His next scheduled start is on Saturday afternoon against the Rays.

Spurs star now won’t be seen again in 2025 after frustrating injury blow

Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways on Saturday, marking their first victory in the Premier League since the final weekend of October.

It was a win that lifted huge pressure off the shoulders of Thomas Frank, who, despite being in the dugout for a matter of months, was already facing questions and scrutiny about his job.

It’s another big week for Spurs who face Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Tuesday evening before coming up against Nottingham Forest next Sunday.

Heading into those games, Frank has received some positive and negative injury news.

The latest injury news out of Spurs

French forward Randal Kolo Muani has started to find his feet in Spurs colours in recent weeks, notably bagging against PSG in the Champions League.

However, he was withdrawn during the weekend’s win over Brentford and was spotted limping as he left the stadium.

Fortunately, he trained on Monday and looks set to play a part in Europe this midweek.

For James Maddison, things continue to look tough. The attacking midfielder featured on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football for their coverage of Wolves vs Manchester United and he may have to get used to off-field duties for now.

There is no specific time frame,” Frank began. “It will be a long time unfortunately before he [Maddison] is available.”

Spurs star will now miss the rest of 2025

While there is more positivity about Spurs heading into this week’s run of fixtures, there has been bad news on the injury front for Italian full-back Destiny Udogie.

The young defender has attracted criticism in recent weeks for his displays but missed the win against Frank’s former employers due to injury.

Speaking about the problem, the manager said: “Destiny picked up a hamstring injury at the end of the Newcastle game, so he’s out until January unfortunately.”

Ahead of their clash with Slavia Prague, a late call will be made on Brennan Johnson’s fitness but Yves Bissouma is set to miss out once again after his latest off-field controversy.

The Mali midfielder has not been seen in Spurs colours under Frank after he was dropped from the UEFA Super Cup squad for persistent lateness.

To make matters worse for Bissouma, a report at the weekend showed footage of the Spurs man allegedly inhaling nitrous oxide, more commonly known as laughing gas.

Commenting on the matter this week Frank said: “It’s an internal matter that we are dealing with at the moment and when we have dealt with that, then I will comment on it.”

Jean-Kevin Augustin: How Leeds were forced to pay £40m for an on-loan striker who played just 48 minutes

The 2019-20 season was one of pure jubilation for Leeds United as Marcelo Bielsa's side ended the club's 16-year exile from the Premier League in style, storming to the Championship title by 10 points ahead of second-placed West Brom. Leeds earned widespread praise for their free-flowing brand of football along the way, with key players such as Patrick Bamford, Ben White, Kalvin Phillips and Stuart Dallas all becoming modern-day icons in the eyes of supporters.

Promotion bonuses totalling £20 million ($27m) were also handed out, and commercial revenue significantly increased from the previous season. Remarkably, though, Leeds still posted a £64m ($85m) loss for the financial year. That is, in no small part, down to the bizarre transfer saga involving French striker Jean-Kevin Augustin, which somewhat soured the Whites' long-awaited return to the big time.

Augustin only played 48 minutes in his disastrous six-month loan spell at Elland Road, but still ended up costing the club a whopping £40m ($53m). Indeed, he is now widely remembered as the worst-value signing in the history of English football, even ahead of infamous Chelsea flop Winston Bogarde, who pocketed £8m in wages in exchange for just nine Premier League appearances between 2000 and 2004.

An ugly legal battle dragged on long after Augustin's departure, and in the end, he scored a big victory for player power. This is the ultimate example of a transfer gone wrong, with Augustin's case now serving as a cautionary tale for boardrooms across the country…

  • AFP

'So much potential and rarely uses it'

Augustin came through the youth ranks at Paris Saint-Germain and broke into the senior squad in April 2015, but saw his path to regular minutes blocked by first-choice centre-forwards Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He sought a fresh start in the summer of 2017, and RB Leipzig won the race for his services, tying the Frenchman down to a five-year contract after agreeing a €13m deal with PSG.

That fee initially looked like a bargain as Augustin recorded 18 goal involvements in 37 appearances across all competitions during his debut season in Germany, including a memorable winner against Porto in the Champions League. However, he only managed eight goals in the following campaign, and gradually fell out of favour with head coach Ralf Rangnick. The club also disciplined Augustin for sitting on his mobile phone shortly before kick-off in their Europa League clash with Red Bull Salzburg, an act Rangnick described as "perverse" in an interview with .

A couple of months later, Rangnick said in a brutally honest public assessment of Augustin, "He has so much potential and rarely uses it." It was no surprise when Leipzig decided to loan Augustin out to Monaco in September 2019, but a return to France did not reignite his lost spark. He only found the net once in 12 appearances, nine of which came as a substitute, and it was reported that then-Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim also had issues with his attitude.

    Bielsa's big gamble

Despite his struggles for playing time and form, Leeds saw an opportunity in the winter transfer window. They were one point off the Championship summit and had already brought in new goalkeeper Elia Caprile and winger Ian Poveda when they swooped for Augustin, who was deemed to be the final piece in their promotion puzzle.

On January 27, 2020, Monaco and Augustin mutually agreed to cut his loan short so that Leipzig could send him to Elland Road through to the end of the season, and an £18m (£24m) obligation to buy was included in the deal to be triggered if Leeds made it back to the Premier League. Bielsa took a huge gamble on the then-22-year-old, who was, incredibly, also being linked with Manchester United at the time, but was certain about the qualities he could bring to the team.

"He's a centre-forward with good movement and mobility," the Uruguayan coach told the club's official website after Augustin's unveiling. "In the team, he's involved in the combination play and has a lot of presence in the box."

The former France youth star, who helped fire his country to glory at the Under-19 European Championship alongside Kylian Mbappe in 2016, added when quizzed on what the fans could expect from him: "They are going to see a player who is always going to leave everything on the pitch, try to score goals and help the team. I want to transmit my passion for football, I really love football."

  • Getty

    Concerns from the off

Suffice it to say, Augustin never made good on that vow and failed to transmit any sort of passion. Concerns were raised early on, too, as he was left out of Bielsa's squad for games against Millwall and Wigan, and given two runs outs with Leeds' U23s squad instead.

Bielsa defended that decision in a passionate press-conference rant, telling reporters: "Augustin is a player who can make a lot of impact. He has a lot of skills. But in the last eight months, he played three full matches. When this happens, the conclusions about his fitness levels are clear. Would a player with the ability of Augustin arrive to our club if he wasn’t in the situation that he’s in now?

"A player of his level, with his skills, if he’s playing, he could cost £30m or £40m. If he arrived here without us paying that money, it’s because he has to resolve a problem – that he wasn’t playing. His fitness performance is very important. If Augustin gets to 70 per cent of his skills, it is enough for him to play here. If he can only use 50% of his skills, then it is not enough."

The Leeds boss did hand Augustin his debut two days later, away at Nottingham Forest, but he still seemed to be operating at just 50%. In an 18-minute cameo from the bench, the Leipzig loanee touched the ball only six times and won just one of his four aerial duels. He did not inject any fresh impetus upfront after replacing Bamford, and Leeds slumped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat.

Augustin also came on late for Bamford in subsequent meetings with Brentford and Bristol City, but was again unable to make any meaningful impact. He was even guilty of missing a golden chance from six yards out against the latter, which prompted pundit Clinton Morrison to remark, "He looks massively unfit." That would turn out to be his final appearance for Leeds.

At the end of February, Augustin suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of the team's last three fixtures before the season was put on pause due to the coronavirus pandemic. He worked to make a full recovery during lockdown, and when Leeds finally resumed training in early June, he reported for duty in good spirits.

However, according to , Augustin struggled to cope with the intensity of the sessions, and Bielsa grew frustrated. The manager told the Leeds hierarchy that it would be a mistake to retain the PSG academy graduate's services, and the club confirmed his departure on July 1 after the expiration of his loan deal. Leeds then wrapped up their campaign with seven victories and just one defeat to secure the Championship trophy, but the shadow of Augustin would linger over the celebrations.

Red Sox Infielder Kristian Campbell Demoted to Triple A Worcester

The suddenly surging Boston Red Sox have optioned infielder Kristian Campbell to Triple A Worcester, according to a report from ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Campbell, who won the starting second baseman job out of spring training, was the first of Boston's three top prospects to make the major leagues. He slashed .301/.407/.495 in April, but has struggled ever since. Since May 1, Campbell is hitting .159/.243/.222 and Boston is now offering him an opportunity to reset in the minor leagues.

Campbell signed an eight-year, $60 million contract this spring after winning the starting job, and is considered a fundamental piece of Boston's future. But with Wilyer Abreu set to return from the injured list, Boston now has depth in the infield and can give Campbell time to return to form.

The Red Sox are 39-37 on the season, and have won eight of their last 10 and now sit just 4.5 games out of first place in the AL East entering play Thursday.

Boston has a weekend series on tap in San Francisco against Rafael Devers and the Giants.

Yankees Catcher Had Brutally Honest Take on What Team Must do to Stop Struggles

The New York Yankees have been one of the most disappointing teams in Major League Baseball so far this season. After being swept by the Miami Marlins this past weekend they find themselves in third place in the American League East.

The Yankees are in Texas on Monday where they will start a three-game series with the Rangers, who are currently two games out of the wild-card race. The Yankees are second in that race, just 2.5 games ahead of the Rangers.

The pressure is mounting for Aaron Boone's team and while the manager has enraged fans by often repeating simple lines after losses, one player stood up and made an honest statement about what the team must do starting now if they want to turn things around and put their struggles behind them.

That player? Second-year catcher Ben Rice, who has also played first base and been used at designated hitter this season.

"I think a little sense of urgency would be good for us," Rice said after Sunday's 2-0 loss in Miami. "I think just going forward to continue to do what we can winning ball games and that’s going to be doing the little things."

The little things—including bad errors and costly mental mistakes—have hurt the Yankees a lot lately. If they don't stop doing those things, losses could be piling up.

Rice's teammates might want to listen to him, because a loss Monday night to the Rangers would only ramp up the pressure even more.
