West Brom fans react to Kieran Gibbs picking up another injury

West Brom strolled to yet another impressive victory against Swansea but the fact Kieran Gibbs suffered an injury which forced him off in the second half is a negative they could do without.

The former Arsenal man was visibly frustrated after he appeared to pick up a hamstring injury, the extent of which is still unknown.

He managed to walk off so it may not be too severe but it is certainly a development he and his team could do without, as the match against the Swans was just his third appearance since his previous injury lay-off.

The left-back missed 12 games because of that issue and although the Baggies coped well without him, Bilic would undoubtedly prefer to call upon his experience and attacking skill – having scored one and assisted one in his last three games.

Fans too are disappointed that he had to be substituted, and many feel sorry for him as he was just beginning to rediscover his form and fitness.

Bilic’s side were already in the ascendency when Gibbs came off but they still coped very well in his absence.

Darnell Furlong replaced him and Nathan Ferguson filled in at left-back, but both players were faultless for the remainder and showed signs that the team will be just as effective without Gibbs.

Nevertheless, it is still a blow to lose a player of his quality and know-how, and that’s why fans are hoping that he won’t spend too long on the sidelines.

West Brom’s win means they go back above Leeds, who also won, proving that the pressure that both sides are creating is helping one another to perform better.

Leeds made an inspired choice by bringing Gjanni Alioski on against Hull

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Off the Bench series, which places in-game managerial decisions and squad selections under FFC’s microscope.

Leeds United beat Hull City 2-0 on Tuesday night, but the win wasn’t as straightforward as the scoreline may suggest.

The Whites once again left it late as the deadlock was broken in the 73rd minute of the match, but it’s a change that was made in the 68th minute that changed the match.

Midway through the second half, Leeds were struggling to get a real foothold in the game against the Tigers as the score remained deadlocked at 0-0.

One of United’s top performers over the past few weeks wasn’t at the races against Grant McCann’s side, and luckily, Marcelo Bielsa was quick to act on this as he swapped Jack Harrison for Ezgjan Alioski.

The North Macedonian entered proceedings with just over 20 minutes of the game to go, and he provided exactly what was needed from them.

Alioski’s impact

The 27-year-old didn’t have much time to make anything happen, but he was absolutely electric as soon as he came on the pitch.

Despite playing less than a third of the minutes Harrison played throughout the game, the winger managed to have more shots on target while also completing the same number of dribbles and key passes.

The versatile United man made his impact count as well as he netted the goal that put the Whites 2-0 up and put the result beyond all doubt.

Unfortunately, Harrison didn’t have his best game, failing to add to his collection of goals or assists. but Leeds were fortunate to be able to call upon Alioski as he made a huge impact off the bench.

Meanwhile, Leeds fans have been praising one man after their win against Hull.

Arsenal: Fans react strangely after moving van is ‘spotted outside Mikel Arteta’s house in Didsbury

Arsenal fans were offering strange reactions after a moving van was supposedly spotted outside Mikel Arteta’s house up north.

In an image posted by @Raffnewaccount, a moving van was spotted loading boxes outside the soon-to-be-former Manchester City assistant manager’s house. Indeed, according to the Guardian too, an agreement is reportedly close.

A move to take over the head coach role at the Emirates Stadium looks to be quite close after it was revealed the north London club had cancelled their pre-match press conference today.

The press conference will now be held tomorrow with Arteta likely to be present at the event.

It has also been revealed by the Evening Standard that the former Everton man will not be in the dugout for the game against his former side.

Tyler Onyango – Profile

Name: Tyler Onyango

Club: Everton

Date of Birth: 4 March 2003

Position: Midfielder (Central/Defensive)

Tyler Onyango – his career so far

Luton-born teenager Tyler Onyango is a life-long Everton fan that was scouted and signed by the club at the age of just eight. And even though he has been at the club for a really long time now and his talents were never really a big secret, he started to get everyone’s attention only in recent times.

The now 17-year-old midfielder is Kenyan but was born in England and has been long touted as one of the next big things to come out of the Blues’ academy. Even since his arrival, he was always among the best and most valued performers, clawing his way up the ladder and through the youth ranks with ease.

So much so that in October 2019, when he was aged only 16, Everton decided to fast-track and promote him to their U23 side and he made his grand debut in the Toffees’ 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven in the Premier League International Cup.

Still, the exceptional gem would first tally 16 appearances for the U18s before joining up with the older squad, tallying five goals and one assist there in the process as well. So far, he could also muster nine appearances for the U23 squad and has one assist under his belt along the way.

Needless to say, these are impressive stats for a young 17-year-old midfielder who’s mostly been playing with lads older than himself. But despite his obvious talent and quality even at such an early stage of his career, Onyango is still patiently waiting for his senior team call-up.

But with all the potential hiding behind the rough edges of the midfield gem, that should just be a matter of time by this point.

Transfer latest

Whenever there is an update on Onyango out there in the media, it’s almost always some really exciting Everton news for the fans. The youngster has been tipped for greatness on multiple different occasions and seems to be on the right path towards potential stardom in the not so distant future.

As of right now, there are no transfer rumours or transfer news that should be concerning the Toffees as Onyango doesn’t seem to be on the radar of other big teams that could potentially make a swoop for the young talent.

Both Paul Tait and David Unsworth heaped praise on him, highlighting his abilities and both his on and off the ball contributions to the team. With that in mind, his senior call-up should be just around the corner. If he can keep developing properly, that is.

Even though it’s really difficult to make such huge claims for a 17-year-old player, Onyango definitely seems like one of the stars in making and Everton should ensure his talents are further developed at Goodison Park and not somewhere else.

Only time will tell, however.

Player profile

The thing that stands out the most about the young midfielder is definitely his imposing physique and presence he brings onto the pitch. Standing at 6ft 3in, Onyango usually makes quick work of the opposition’s attackers, utilising both his great sense of positioning and pure physical strength to shrug them off the ball.

But it’s not just the things the does out of possession but also when he has the ball at his feet and Everton are on the attack. Even though it’s not always his primary task nor does he perform it brilliantly every game but the 17-year-old has the ability to receive in tight spaces, pass when under pressure and switch the play when necessary.

This makes him a great modern defensive midfielder in making and once these things get polished enough, he should be ready for his big step-up. With that being said, however, Onyango can and sometimes does struggle in tight spaces and when he’s not given the time and space he needs to do his thing.

At the moment, there’s still a long way for him to go but the foundations are certainly there and if he can work on his shortcomings while also highlighting his strengths, the future will certainly look bright for both him and the Toffees.

Liverpool: Fans hope to see James Milner take on a coaching role when he retires

Fans are discussing the future of James Milner after he retires from his playing career.

According to the Daily Mail (relayed via @LFCTransferRoom), the midfielder has admitted he would ‘like to stay in the game’ once he hangs up his boots. Milner has revealed seeing the success Jurgen Klopp has spearheaded Liverpool to has inspired him to take on a managerial role.

The 34-year-old first joined the Reds from Manchester City in 2015 (via BBC Sport). Milner signed on a free transfer and has become an integral part to Liverpool’s recent run of silverware. He has enjoyed operating as vice-captain to Jordan Henderson and guiding the team to their first Premier League title.

Fans are in agreement that Milner would make a good manager after he retires from a fruitful career, perhaps because he has already proven himself in a leadership role at the club. The midfielder has tallied 85 goals and 123 assists across his many years in the game (via Transfermarkt). One supporter has commented saying ‘I rate him better than Stevie G’ as a potential successor to Klopp. A lot of fans have been against the idea of Steven Gerrard coming in to take on a coaching role.

Liverpool: Fans defend Xherdan Shaqiri after ‘nasty’ Arno Rossini comments

Swiss football coach Arno Rossini has come out with aÂsavage statement about Xherdan Shaqiri.

Speaking to Tio (via Goal), the 63-year-old has slammed Liverpool’s wide-man and doesn’t think people will remember him as part of this Premier League winning side.

“Xherdan is not a champion,” Rossini commented. “We certainly cannot say that he left his mark with the teams with which he won. Not with the big guys at least.

“Let’s say that over the years he has often followed the games of his teams as a spectator, sitting in the best places. And millions have been paid for him.”

Liverpool signed Shaqiri from Stoke City back in 2018 after triggering his £13 million release clause (via BBC Sport). Since his arrival, he has contributed seven goals and five assists in 30 appearances (via Transfermarkt). The 28-year-old also grabbed himself an assist against Barcelona at Anfield last season, which ultimately contributed to Liverpool’s sixth European title.

“This, taking everything into account, makes me think that the Swiss is not one who always gives his best. Of course, Xherdan is filling the bulletin board and seeing his bank account grow dramatically; I don’t know how many, in 10 years, will remember him thinking about the great teams in which he has played.”

A lot of Liverpool fans have slammed Rossini after @AnfieldEdition relayed his comments. One supporter has branded them ‘nasty and unnecessary’ as they see Shaqiri as a vital part to the club’s success, particularly last season, whilst another called him a ‘fantastic player.’

Glasgow Rangers: Gers should look at signing Ilia Gruev

The Daily Record has suggested that Glasgow Rangers make a move for Ilia Gruev after his contract at Werder Bremen recently came to an end.

The 20-year-old made the move to Bremen in 2015, and has played for their youth teams ever since. He has previously been compared to Fernando Redondo, but he failed to make a single appearance for the Bundesliga outfit, and he is now available on a free transfer. Whilst he is still without experience at the highest level, he could be a no-risk signing for Steven Gerrard.

Although he did not play for Bremen’s first team in the previous campaign, he did appear for their second team in the Regionalliga Nord. In 15 matches, he managed two goals and four assists, which is not a bad return for someone who is primarily a defensive midfielder. Bremen have had a very difficult term in the Bundesliga in the previous campaign, only staying up via the relegation play-off against Heidenheim, and even then only on away goals – manager Florian Kohfeldt had little opportunity to give inexperienced players their first opportunities in professional football.

Now out of contract, and with wages that are unlikely to be through the roof, Gruev could be a bargain for Ross Wilson and co at Ibrox. He is still very young and could certainly improve and with a Transfermarkt value of £180,000, taking him for nothing would surely be decent business.

Glasgow Rangers: Club are struggling to agree personal terms with Zungu

Glasgow Rangers have been nearing the completion of a deal to bring Bongani Zungu to the club, but it seems like this transfer is stalling following the latest reports.

According to The Scotsman, the Gers seem to have an agreement in place with Amiens to sign Zungu for around £3.6 million and it looked like the deal would be easy to complete from there.

However the current stumbling block is due to the fact that the Scottish side are struggling to agree personal terms with the defensive midfielder.

A three year deal with the option to extend for a further year looked to be agreed but personal terms have still not been finalised and this has now left many unsure as to whether it will be completed.

Zungu has made 57 appearances so far for his current club, scoring twice and assisting three goals, per Transfermarkt. He has also got experience in Portugal, as he has made 27 appearances for Vitória Guimarães.

The 27-year-old also has international pedigree, scoring twice for South Africa in 24 caps for his country, with both goals coming in last summer’s Africa Cup of Nations as he helped them reach the quarter-finals, per Transfermarkt.

He is also attracting interest from clubs in La Liga and the Serie A, and this highlights the quality he has. Therefore the Gers should try and do everything possible to make sure the deal gets completed as long as it is realistic.

A good defensive midfielder would add some great strength to their midfield and for what seems a reasonable fee, it looks like a good bit of business for the club.

Sheffield United: John Egan models new away kit in Instagram post

The 2020/21 Premier League season is only a month away as it plans to start on the 12th September, and fans of Sheffield United will be keeping a close eye on the club over the summer to see what signings they make.

However, one thing they now know is what the kits the club will be wearing next season. Indeed, following the release of the home kit last week, supporters of the club have now been shown the away strip.

One of the players who has shown Blades fans the new kit is defender John Egan. The centre-back played 36 games in the league last term, scoring two goals, but more importantly he was involved in all 13 clean sheets that the Blades have kept in the division, per Transfermarkt.

He has clearly been a vital player for the club this season and his new Instagram

/CDt2HykljBx/”>post of himself in the new pink away kit has gone down very well with fans, who clearly love the design judging by the comments on his post.

The Irishman clearly loves it as well as he supported the picture with the caption: ‘New away kit is 🔥’. Hopefully the club can perform just as well next season in the new kits as they did in the 2019/20 campaign, as they finished ninth and only five points away from a European spot.

West Ham may have the perfect Declan Rice successor right under their nose

West Ham have been rather quiet in the transfer market so far this summer with the main saga surrounding the future of Declan Rice.

London rivals Chelsea are keen to bring him back to Stamford Bridge having been released as a 14-year-old back in 2014.

According to The Sun, the Blues are set to launch a bid for the English defensive midfielder after already spending over £130m on the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell.

The Hammers, however, are being firm in their £80m asking price, a fee which would eclipse a club-record substantially.

Whether he’s sold very much remains to be seen but the Irons are going to need to find themselves a viable successor fit to fill the void Rice will leave behind when – and if – he departs in the near future.

And they may not need to spend a penny in doing so should David Moyes promote Josh Cullen into the first-team set-up as he has done with Grady Diangana this off-season.

The 24-year-old has been out on loan three times now in his career, the latest of which was a successful two-year spell with Charlton Athletic.

Cullen averaged two tackles, 1.6 key passes, 1.4 clearances, 1.3 interceptions and 2.7 long balls per game this season in the Championship for a team that were ultimately relegated.

His form down the road at The Valley has led to international recognition in Mick McCarthy’s Ireland side where he has picked up two caps.

Lee Bowyer has been very impressed with the 5 foot 9 enforcer during his time at the club, speaking to Football.London, he said: “Josh Cullen has been excellent for the two years he has been working with me. Every single game he’s outstanding, very rarely does he do anything wrong. Again he protected the back four so well in the middle of the park. Josh doesn’t really give the ball away. He tidies things up, he breaks things up well. He was outstanding.”

Going by that review alone, it would seem West Ham have the perfect Rice successor, so the club can’t afford to offload him just yet despite interest from Crystal Palace and Fulham, as per the Telegraph.
