Peter Crouch sums up exactly how most football fans were feeling after Spurs’ stunning comeback

[ad_pod ]Tottenham Hotspur secured one of the greatest Champions League comebacks of all time on Wednesday night thanks to a Lucas Moura hat-trick.In the aftermath of proceedings, the former Spurs player Peter Crouch posted a tweet which just about summed up the mood of spectators worldwide.

Crouch’s tweet arrived at the end of a fixture which somehow trumped the drama the footballing world witnessed earlier in the week.

First Vincent Kompany scored a 25-yard-screamer to put Manchester City within touching distance of the Premier League title, Liverpool secured a 4-0 win over Barcelona at Anfield a day later, overturning a 3-0 defeat from the first-leg and then Spurs went and did the unthinkable and topped the lot.

Two nil down at half-time against a supremely talented Ajax side, Moura scored the three most important goals of his career to secure a remarkable comeback and set up an all-English-Final for the first time since the 2007/08 season, when Manchester United prevailed over Chelsea on penalties.

This week has to go down as one of the greatest football has seen in its recent history but, as Crouch says, everyone’s in need of a breather after watching the unprecedented drama unfold.

Leicester City can’t afford to agree to yet more loan terms for Islam Slimani

[ad_pod ]

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Sporting Lisbon are eyeing a move which could bring back enigmatic striker Islam Slimani to the club following a torrid spell with Leicester.

What’s the word?

Slimani is still Leicester’s record signing, arriving for £29m back in August 2016, but it’s fair to say he’s not had the best of times in the Midlands.

Since joining, he’s scored just 13 goals in 46 matches which for the outlay spent on him is a pretty poor return.

As a result, the striker was loaned out to Turkish side Fenerbahce for this season but has scored just one league goal all campaign. It certainly doesn’t bode well if he were to return over pre-season.

However, the 30-year-old could soon be on the move once again, per a report from A Bola. They claim that his former employers Sporting Lisbon have been in contact with the Foxes over a possible loan move with an option to buy. At present, the Algerian is currently rated at £9m according to Transfermarkt.

Leicester must move him on permanently

If you add everything together Slimani is easily one of the biggest flops in the clubs history. As such, Leicester would do extremely well to recoup much of the fee they spent to bring him to the King Power three years ago.

However, rather than allowing Sporting to insert an option to buy into a loan deal, the Foxes must make sure he leaves permanently this summer. They’d be making a huge error if they didn’t.

The fact of the matter is that Brendan Rodgers needs as many funds as possible when the window opens. This is simply down to the fact that if they stand any chance of bringing in Youri Tielemans, it will cost a considerable amount.

The Belgian has been a wonderful addition to the Leicester side but, with other clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham contemplating a transfer, his current loan side could find things difficult.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

Rodgers declared his side would be doing everything possible to sign him last month, and by selling Slimani as soon as possible it’ll significantly bolster their funds and the chances of acquiring him on a permanent basis.

Slimani is not someone who will ever cut it in the Premier League and, as such, the Leicester heirarchy need to cut their loses now.

Leeds United: Bielsa must consider summer swoop for Reece Brown

After suffering heartbreak in the Championship play-offs on Wednesday, Leeds United will almost certainly have to alter their plans for the upcoming transfer window.

Having been in a fantastic position to secure promotion to the Premier League for the majority of the 2018/19 campaign, the Whites would have been targeting players with a proven record of performing against England’s elite club sides.

Yet with the Yorkshire-based outfit now facing another year in the second tier, it is clear that Marcelo Bielsa will have to switch his focus to bringing in players who have the potential to thrive at that particular level.

Therefore, it is is of little surprise that the Whites are being linked with one of the most exciting young talents in League Two.

According to Football Insider (as quoted by Leeds Live), Bielsa is reportedly interested in signing Forest Green Rovers star Reece Brown whose current deal at The New Lawn runs out next month. Although Leeds would have to pay a compensatory fee for the 23-year-old due to his age, it could prove to be a masterstroke of a transfer if they are willing to take the risk.

An extremely talented player, Brown enjoyed a outstanding year for the Green Devils as his 11 goals and 15 assists helped the club to a fifth place finish in the fourth tier

Yet after witnessing his side fail to overcome Tranmere Rovers in the play-offs earlier this week, the likelihood of the midfielder staying in League Two next season is very slim.

With Brown demonstrating throughout the most recent campaign that he has all the ingredients needed to play at a higher level, he could be turn out to be the perfect replacement for Samuel Saiz who is expected to make a permanent exit from Elland Road this summer.

What do you think Leeds fans? Should Bielsa consider signing Brown when the transfer window opens in July? Or is he not worth the risk? Let us know below.

Transfer Focus: Sheffield United need to reassess strategy after Will Vaulks link

[ad_pod ]

According to TEAMtalk, Sheffield United are looking to sign Will Vaulks this summer.

The midfielder has been the standout performer for the Millers this season, but a move to the top flight may be one step too far.

Crowded midfield

The 25-year-old would be joining a squad where the midfield is arguably its strongest position. John Fleck and Oliver Norwood have been incredible this past 12 months, and unless they are injured, there’s no way the Welshman can get into this team.

You have to ask the question as to why the Blades would release Paul Coutts if they were looking to replace him with a player such as Vaulks? As much as he stood out at the New York City Stadium, he isn’t the greatest fit for Chris Wilder’s side.

Baffling again

United seem to be all over the place at the moment when it comes to pinpointing who they should sign ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Pl>ymaker FC’s Matchday with Max caught up with Jamaica’s women’s team. See what happened when he met the history makers in the video below…

The Blades have been linked with a whole host of lower league talent, and while these signings can work out, it is too much of a risk for a newly-promoted side.

Macauley Bonne, Lee Gregory, Kasey Palmer and Kieran Dowell have all been linked in recent weeks, and while they are good players, there’s nothing to suggest that they would be able to cut the mustard in the top flight.

For them to target the Rotherham midfielder just doesn’t make sense.

Chris Wilder has stated time and again how vital team cohesion is to his squad, and Vaulks could easily upset that.

He is currently the captain of United’s Yorkshire rivals, and on top of this, he was sent off at Bramall Lane earlier this season for a horror tackle on George Baldock which could’ve easily injured the full-back.

He isn’t Premier League quality, and the Yorkshire club should be aiming higher than players who have just been relegated from the Championship.

Please stay! Sunderland fans heap praise on Bryan Oviedo

[ad_pod ]

Sunderland suffered extraordinary heartbreak at Wembley on Sunday, but some fans are already looking ahead with optimism to next season, and they’re starting with Bryan Oviedo.

The Black Cats were beaten 2-1 by Charlton on Sunday, marking their second devastating loss in the capital this season.

After taking the lead thanks to a remarkable mix-up by the Addicks, Jack Ross’ side sat on their advantage and simply did not do enough to see out the game.

Ben Purrington levelled things up before half-time, and Patrick Bauer gave Lee Bowyer’s side a deserved winner in the 94th minute of the match.

While none of the Sunderland players covered themselves in glory, there’s no question this group of players is united with the fans, and Oviedo’s post-match tweet has been met with heavy praise from the Wearside faithful.

Why does Crystal Palace’s phenomenon Aaron Wan-Bissaka remain under-rated?

[ad_pod ]

Given that we inhabit a stat-obsessed age, it makes little sense that Aaron Wan-Bissaka remains so under-rated from some quarters. The figures that have accompanied his quick rise to prominence are little short of astonishing and we will get to them very shortly. Surely though they should be praised from the rooftops, not over-looked? There is however two very different types of under-appreciation.

The most obvious example of the first kind is James Milner, whose impact and influence for the bulk of his career was taken for granted. Then there is Crystal Palace’s fantastically promising right-back who typifies the latter kind: a player whose introduction to professional football has been so immense he is immediately furnished with large quantities of hype and from that hype comes the inevitable backwash of negativity.

He is not then ‘under-rated’ in the truest sense. It’s just that some people believe quite strongly that he is over-rated.

Roy Hodgson – as you would expect from a seasoned sage of the game – was aware of the possibility of this happening all the way back in August of last year. He spoke of the need to allow the 21-year-old to continue learning his trade ‘without trying to raise him up on pedestals to then saw the legs off the pedestals when it suits’.

Are Crystal Palace right to slap a £100m valuation on Wilfried Zaha’s head? Check out the video below to see why they are…

It was a commendable sentiment but ultimately a doomed one. Because after making an immediate impact with some fine displays at the tail-end of the previous campaign, the Croydon-born defender went on to have a damn-near immaculate 2018/19.

Per Whoscored, around the midway point of the campaign, nobody had made more successful tackles than Wan-Bissaka across Europe’s top five leagues, and his success rate of 92.8% astounds. From 83 attempted take-ons he was dribbled past just six times. His imperious performances as a whole earned him four club Player of the Month awards and last month he pipped Wilfried Zaha to the Player of the Year garland.

‘Ah, but he doesn’t do much going forward,’ his critics chime, which is such an English response to focus only on the ordinary aspects of a phenomena. Even this charge, however, is not entirely fair: Wan-Bissaka provided three Premier League assists this season, a return that saw him match Kieran Trippier and better Kyle Walker’s output – two players who will surely fade from international reckoning as the Palace ace and Trent Alexander-Arnold battle for the England right-back berth. Furthermore, Wan-Bissaka started out as a winger. He has the chops.

For now though he concentrates on destruction over construction and for this role he is truly a generational talent, so it was little surprise when Manchester United reportedly showed their hand last week with a £25m bid readied.

The figure was insulting. It was derisory. That sum in today’s climate gets you a bench dweller for a top-six side who is knocking well into their late twenties. Wan-Bissaka is a superstar-in-the-making who has played like a superstar from the off.

If Palace are to sell their crown jewel, the swooping vultures will have to submit an offer which is representative of his true value.

His performances on his breakout campaign prove that could well be a figure in the region of £50 million – one which appears to be the going rate for exuberant, prodigious and homegrown talents at fellow Premier League clubs.

Leeds United fans split on the prospect of loaning PSG youngsters

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter are split when it comes to the prospect of loaning PSG’s young players if Qatar Sports Investments buy a stake in the club.

It has been reported that the billionaire investors are set to purchase 10% of the Yorkshire outfit, and along with that they would allow Leeds to have access to their other club’s young talent.

Timothy Weah is one of the names that Leeds fans have been talking about on social media.

While some supporters are excited about the prospect of seeing some of the world’s most promising youngsters put on the famous white shirt, others have reservations.

The main complaint has been that the arrival of these young stars on loan could stifle the development of the Whites’ academy graduates.

Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton are two players that have shone for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this year, and they may not have gotten that chance if a cohort of PSG loanees had taken their spots.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying on Twitter…

Waste of space: Liverpool are wrong to let Adam Lallana stay another season

[ad_pod ]As revealed by the Press Association’s chief football writer Simon Peach, Adam Lallana has said that he will be staying at Liverpool next season, and that Jurgen Klopp and the coaching staff have made it clear that he has a part to play. The 31-year-old said: “Yeah, absolutely no question about it. I couldn’t be happier here, winning Champions Leagues. I know my ability & I know what I can give.”The gaffer & his staff and the recruitment guys have all made it clear they know I have a big part to play with what’s to come next, so I’m buzzing with that. No question my future is here and I can’t wait for what’s next.”

Now, we already know that Liverpool fans aren’t happy about this news, and they have every right to feel that way.

Lallana made just 16 appearances last term, making just six starts and didn’t contribute directly to a single goal.

You can relive Liverpool’s Champions League celebrations in glorious 2D thanks to the guys at 442oons in the video below…

He isn’t getting any younger either having only recently celebrated his 31st birthday back in May, and it seems foolish to keep such a non influential player at the club whilst his stock is still fairly high.

Additionally, the England international earns £110k-a-week at Anfield, which isn’t a small figure by any means.

In fact, when worked out completely, the former Southampton man’s total time on the pitch for the Reds equates to just 569 minutes with the majority of his appearances coming from the bench.

If you take his weekly wages into account across the entirety of the 39-week 2018/19 season, then Lallana earned £4.51m – this means that he actually cost the Champions League winners a whopping £7.93k for every minute he was on the pitch – he simply isn’t pulling his weight.

He may be loving his time at the club, but Liverpool must be more ruthless and get rid of the attacking midfielder.

The Chalkboard: West Brom can replace Craig Dawson by promoting Dara O’Shea

[ad_pod ]

Craig Dawson’s future at West Brom is far from certain despite the arrival of Slaven Bilic.

The Sun reported last week that Watford had joined the race to sign the 29-year-old as West Brom look to reduce their wage bill ahead of the new season.

If Dawson departs, it could mean West Brom are stretched in central defence.

At the moment, they’d only have Kyle Bartley and Ahmed Hegazi who could slot into that area of the pitch.

Albion have been linked with moves for both Liam Lindsay and Reece Oxford who would be shrewd signings, but Bilic could choose to favour an internal replacement for Dawson instead.

On the chalkboard

One of the academy players who could be set to make a first-team breakthrough in 2019/20 is defender Dara O’Shea.

The centre-back impressed on loan at Exeter last term, so much so that their manager Matt Taylor tipped him to go all the way back in March.

It was glowing praise for a young player who could now prove crucial to West Brom’s rebuild.

With the possibility of Dawson departing, there would be no better opportunity for him to make the step up.

Albion’s academy hasn’t had the best of luck in terms of keeping their best young talents, so Bilic would surely be an instant hit if he promotes O’Shea into his defence, rather than looking elsewhere.

Watch fans explain why the Football League is better than the Premier League in the video below…

Standing at 6 ft 2, he is the same height as Dawson, a factor that immediately suggests he could act as a replacement.

The 20-year-old is a commanding defender who after receiving his first call-up for the Republic of Ireland U21 side this year, seems to be going from strength to strength.

Making the leap from League 2 where he was playing on loan at Exeter last season could be a considerable jump to make, but it would certainly be a cost-effective measure in helping to replace one of West Brom’s key players.

This is an option Bilic must consider as he begins his work at the Hawthorns.

Leeds looking to add a new dimension with Hugill

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to reports from The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Leeds United are one of many clubs interested in signing West Ham United’s Jordan Hugill this summer.

The striker’s best qualities are clear and if he arrived at Elland Road he would likely bring a new dimension to Marcelo Bielsa’s frontline.

What’s the story?

The journalist has stated that Leeds are interested in the centre-forward, but they aren’t the only ones.

Preston, Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan are apparently all sniffing around the Hammers man.

The 27-year-old spent last term out on loan at Middlesbrough where he scored six times and assisted twice. While these numbers don’t look amazing for a striker they don’t reflect what his game is all about.

New dimension

Even though the forward only stands at 6 ft tall, he can act as a target man due to his incredible aerial ability.

This type of forward is seemingly something Leeds are after this summer after their previous links to the 6 ft 4 Sam Gallagher.

The staggering number of aerial duels the striker wins will offer the Yorkshire outfit a different attack threat, as their current strikers just can’t offer what Hugill brings to the table.

The West Ham man won 3.5 aerial duels per game last season, compared to Kemar Roofe’s 0.9 and Patrick Bamford’s 1.1.

Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

It’s not as if Leeds rarely play the ball in the air for their forwards either. In just 23 appearances, Bamford contested 77 aerial duels last season but only won 25 of them. Hugill is a much more accomplished striker in the air, and he will give Bielsa another option when he decides the Whites need to take a different approach in matches.
