No início do segundo tempo, a equipe visitante tentou esboçar reação.

Rangers: Jack posts promising update

An update has emerged on Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack, regarding his current injury situation at Ibrox.

What’s the latest?

The Rangers central midfielder has posted a promising injury update on social media, sharing an image of his boots covered in mud.

He posted the image on his Instagram story, via Ibrox News, earlier this week with the caption “Nothing feels better than this”, with his muddied boots on the floor of what appears to be the dressing room.

Fans will be buzzing

Rangers fans will surely be buzzing with this fresh update from Jack. His last competitive appearance for the club came back in February of this year, with a calf injury keeping him out of action ever since.

This Instagram post, however, suggests that he is closing in on a return to first-team action as it indicates that he is back out on the grass doing work. Although, it remains to be seen whether he is doing individual training with a fitness coach or taking part in sections of team training with a view to a full return in the coming weeks.

After eight months out, it will not be an instant return for the midfielder. Steven Gerrard will need to ease him back into the flow of things as to not aggravate the injury and cause further problems and setbacks. This means that it could still be a while before fans see him in regular action, although cameo appearances in the Premiership and Europa League could aid his fitness.

Regardless of that, supporters will surely be delighted to see that he is making progress on his recovery. The long-serving midfielder is a quality option for Gerrard to call upon when fit and the fans will be buzzing for him to be back as he bolsters the squad.

Back in 2019, Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister was effusive in his praise of the midfielder, saying: “For me, he has been unbelievable from day one.

“He has improved no-end, and you are seeing a midfield player gathering loads of information, experience and being given a bit of responsibility he’s maybe not had in the past.”

Jack lived up to this praise with his form in the 2020/21 campaign. In 19 appearances in the Premiership, Jack averaged a sublime SofaScore rating of 7.14 as he made 2.2 tackles and interceptions per game and completed 90% of his passes.

The midfield beast also averaged a score of 7.05 in four Europa League matches. This shows that he has the ability to come back into the side and make an impact in the middle of the park, both domestically and in Europe, which is why Gerrard and the fans will be over the moon with this fresh update on his road to recovery.

ICC unveils new rules on unauthorised cricket

The ICC has announced a new set of rules for authorised and unauthorised cricket

The ICC has announced a new set of rules for authorised and unauthorised cricket that give its member boards the power to decide on granting recognition for competitions that take place on their home soil. However the status of the Indian Cricket League, which was started in September 2007, and the players associated with it will be decided after a meeting between the ICC, BCCI and ICL, likely to be on February 21.The BCCI had initially adopted a hard-line approach against the ICL, barring Indian cricketers associated with the unofficial league from accessing even their local college grounds. It also used its significant influence within the ICC to ensure other national boards imposed similar bans on ICL cricketers and officials.Debate over the ICL gathered pace last week after the Pakistan Cricket Board received a legal notice against a domestic ban it had imposed on players associated with the private league. The ICL had asked for recognition last year under an ICC rule that allowed matches of an “exhibition/testimonial” nature to be granted approval directly by the world body. The ICC had then directed the BCCI to conduct discussions with the Indian board, since it considered the matter a domestic issue. However, there was no headway in the talks between the BCCI and ICL but a subsequent meeting between the ICC and the ICL in December indicated a compromise was on the cards. The status of unofficial tournaments that are held outside the territory of member boards will be determined by the ICC. The rules, which will come into effect from June 2009, were drafted by a five-man panel consisting of consisting of the former Cricket South Africa president Norman Arendse, the ECB chairman Giles Clarke, the BCCI president Shashank Manohar, the BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi and the ICC’s head of legal David Becker.

Vettori for more high-tech review system

The review system has elicited concerns from both New Zealand and West Indies, particularly with regards to the limited availability of television technology to the third umpire

The review system trialled in the recently concluded Test series between New Zealand and West Indies has drawn concern from both teams, particularly with regard to the limited availability of television technology to the third umpire.Brendon McCullum’s controversial dismissal on the final day of the second Test in Napier raised doubts over the system’s ability to produce accurate decisions. McCullum was adjudged caught behind by umpire Rudi Koertzen and the decision, when referred, was upheld by third umpire Mark Benson. However, Benson’s review of the decision was, under the rule, limited to normal television coverage and not the advanced “hot spot” technology, which indicated no contact between bat and ball. The decision was crucial as New Zealand, batting aggressively in pursuit of 312, called off their chase with 92 required off nine overs.Daniel Vettori said all available technology should be used in the referral process, without which it would not meet its intended purpose. “It was clear he didn’t hit it,” he said of McCullum’s dismissal. “If you’re going upstairs you should give umpires as much technology as they can have.”Hot Spot seems to be the best one I’ve seen in my time. You couple that with the snicko and the naked eye and you’d think you’d get the decisions right 100% of the time.”John Dyson, the West Indies coach, agreed. “I think if the feeling about technology like snicko is very good, that should be another tool given to the umpires to make decisions. Sometimes the eyes and the cameras don’t pick up everything.” There were a total of 19 reviews in the Test series, with seven used on the final day in Napier.Vettori, who had earlier called for referrals to be used only for ‘obvious calls’, also felt the three unsuccessful challenges allowed for each team gave captains an opportunity to use the system quite liberally for marginal decisions, as he did when he appealed for a leg-before decision against Chris Gayle early in his innings of 197.”We took a chance with Chris because it was such an important wicket. I don’t think that’s why the referral system was brought in. If we’re looking to rid the game of the obvious wrong decisions then it has to be brought back to one (challenge) in my opinion. If we get caught up in the 50-50s (decisions), that takes the power out of the umpires’ hands. Everyone involved in the game still wants that human element.”Dyson preferred two challenges. “With three there’s a bit of a feeling there; ‘Oh well, we’ll give it a go because we’ve got three’.”

Kulkarni and Powar put Mumbai on top

Five-wicket hauls from Ramesh Powar and debutant Dhawal Kulkarni helped Mumbai gain a sizeable first-innings lead at the Brabourne Stadium

Five-wicket hauls from Ramesh Powar and debutant Dhawal Kulkarni helped Mumbai gain a sizeable first-innings lead at the Brabourne Stadium, placing their team in a position from where they can now aim for an outright victory. Although Rajasthan did well to earn two wickets in Mumbai’s second innings late in the day, the hosts finished 133 ahead at stumps.Rajasthan got off to a positive start in the morning after Mumbai, resuming on 293 for 8, folded for 307. In reply, Rajasthan suffered a jolt when Kulkarni bagged two wickets in two overs when he had Shubhanshu Vijay and Nikhil Doru caught in the slips by Sahil Kukreja in identical fashion. Kulkarni maintained an off-stump line, trying to make best use of the new ball, and both batsmen fell to reckless shots. After Kulkarni’s double-strike, Venugopal Rao and Vineet Saxena progressed calmly. However, Powar’s introduction at the Churchgate End worked in Mumbai’s favour. Rao, who was connecting with ease against the fast bowlers, seemed flustered against Powar’s offspin and the bounce he got off the pitch. In a careless moment, Rao went for the slog-sweep, and was caught well by Agarkar at long leg. His fell a few overs before lunch, and Powar struck twice in an over after the break. Ashok Menaria’s unconvincing prod resulted in only an edge that was caught easily by keeper Vinayak Samant. Five balls later, Robin Bist, the last specialist batsman, played all over a simple offbreak and Ajinkya Rahane picked an easy bat-pad offering at silly point.Powar bowled an unchanged spell of 20-3-44-5, his best figures in the past year. His previous five-for came in an away game against Tamil Nadu last season. At the other end Kulkarni bowled with purpose – pitching it fuller and trying to move the ball in. He smartly mixed it up with the shorter ones that would lift suddenly. His best dismissal was that of Gagan Khoda, Rajasthan’s senior-most batsman. Khoda had hit two fluent cover drives for four off Kulkarni in the third over after the lunch. But Kulkarni, who impressed for Mumbai Indians during the IPL, sensed his opponent’s aggressive approach; he pitched one on length and moved it slightly away and Khoda, who had already committed to the stroke, could only nick one to Wasim Jaffer at first slip.Mumbai were frustrated by the final-wicket pair of Saxena and Gajendra Singh, who added 52. Saxena used his feet well especially against spin and cleared the infield frequently to pick some easy runs. He was the solitary batsman to play his shots and didn’t allow the bowlers to get on top. Jaffer had to go to Kulkarni to deliver the breakthrough. The bowler, in his fourth spell, ended Saxena’s resistance, becoming only the seventh Mumbai bowler to bag a five-for on debut. Hormasji Vajifdar, Eknath Solkar, Suru Nayak, Balwinder Sandhu, Amit Dani and Manish Patel had achieved the feat in the past.

Querem ver o time vencendo.

New South Wales excited by young talent

The absence of key players could herald a new era for New South Wales, with promising young talent banked upon to continue the success from last year

The absence of key players could herald a new era for New South Wales, who will bank upon young talent to continue the success from the 2007-08 season, when they won the Pura Cup. Simon Katich, the team captain, feels the line-up is settled even without him, Brad Haddin and Doug Bollinger, all of whom will be touring India with the national side in October-November.”We expect Mark Cameron and Nathan Bracken to open the attack and, with Doug Bollinger away, someone else will try to take that other bowling opportunity,” Katich told the . “Our attack will be fine, as will our batting.”Last year Phil Hughes did extremely well, Peter Forrest had a good season, and guys like Usman Khawaja, Steven Smith and Moises Henriques got opportunities. Greg Mail and Ed Cowan will also push for spots. There’s going to be good rivalry and batsmen who make runs early will be in the best position.”Katich said the winning experience in last year’s Pura Cup, now the Sheffield Shield, will help the up-and-coming players. “They’ve got some experience under their belts, have spent time in the squad, and I think it will be time for them to push on and show what they can do,” he said. “There’s no doubt they’ve got the ability, it’s just about having that belief that they can do it at the next level.”David Gilbert, the Cricket New South Wales chief executive, was thrilled with the advent of younger players, especially Hughes and Forrest, both of whom are in India with the Australia A squad. “It’s probably one of our most exciting eras of young guys coming through since the 1980s, when the Waugh brothers [Steve and Mark] and Mark Taylor emerged,” Gilbert said. “Phil Hughes is proof of that. At this time last year, he was still finishing school commitments – and here he is on an Australia A trip.”Hughes earned his place in the Australia A side after only nine first-class games. He got a rookie deal with New South Wales last year after he scored 387 runs at 96.75 for Australia Under-19s in five matches against Pakistan Under-19s and followed it up with a good showing in the Emerging Players Tournament. In seven first-class matches for New South Wales last season, Hughes scored 559 runs at 62.11 and, at 19, became the youngest centurion in a Sheffield Shield final.”The [Australia A] selection was also good news for Peter Forrest,” Gilbert said. “He did good things for about two years and fell away a bit late last season. But at the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane he’s done very well lately. So I guess his selection was based on what he achieved over the winter up there. He’s a very determined bloke.”We’re probably not going to see much of Simon Katich and Doug Bollinger this year and that’s where it will be interesting to see how the likes of Hughes, Forrest, Steven Smith, Usman Khawaja, Moises Henriques and others go. With the 2009 Ashes tour on the horizon the performances of many of these players will be closely monitored by the national selectors.”

Mashud disappointed with lack of communication

Khaled Mashud, the former Bangladesh wicketkeeper, who announced his retirement from international cricket on Sunday, has said a lack of communication from the selectors made things difficult for senior players like him

Khaled Mashud, the former Bangladesh wicketkeeper, who announced his retirement from international cricket on Sunday, has said a lack of communication from the selectors made it difficult for senior players like him. Mashud, 32, said his omission from the squad for the upcoming New Zealand series made him realise he wouldn’t be part of the selectors’ plans in the near future.”I am a senior player and I think there should be an understanding with the selection committee,” Mashud told the Dhaka-based . “They could have talked with me. Ian Healy once told me the Australian board informed him a month in hand that he would not be around. I think if that practice was undertaken by our board, it would be a little less painful for senior cricketers like me.” His contract, along with those of Javed Omar and Mohammad Rafique, was not renewed by the board in December 2007.Mashud also denied reports that he had asked the Bangladesh board for a farewell match. “I read in a few papers that I asked the board for a game. I cannot do that since I am a professional cricketer. I know that only the best performers play for the country and I would never tell the board to bring me in just for a farewell match. I did not play cricket for so long to beg for a match.”Mashud was replaced by Mushfiqur Rahim for the 2007 World Cup and he said he had tried hard to make a comeback. “They [selectors] told me my batting was failing me, so I concentrated on that. Then they told me I didn’t keep regularly in the National Cricket League. Is it a crime to not keep for three or four matches in an entire season?”People in the street ask me when I will be back for Bangladesh and I had no answer for them. In such a difficult time for our cricket, I thought it would have been quite a challenge to play again.”Mashud said the most memorable moment of his career was the ICC Trophy win in Malaysia in 1997. Bangladesh were chasing 166 in 25 overs and Mashud, with 15 off seven balls, was there to guide them to a final-ball win. “Whoever I am is because of that ICC Trophy final. There would be no Khaled Mashud or Mohammad Ashraful if we didn’t win that match. It was the turning point and we united Bangladesh with that win.”He was appointed as a consultant by the Bangladesh board’s games development committee along with Aminul Islam and Mohammad Rafique to coach age-group and academy cricketers in August. Mashud said he was keen to pass on his experience to youngsters, while still playing first-class cricket.

Sheffield Wednesday: Windass pens new deal

Sheffield Wednesday have recently announced that Josh Windass has signed a new contract with the club, which will keep him at Hillsborough until the summer of 2023.

What’s the story?

Windass signed for the club back in 2020, and has gone on to make 53 appearances in total for the Owls, which includes 44 in the 2020/21 season.

The forward netted ten goals and was on hand to provide six assists in all competitions last term, in what was a frustrating season for Wednesday as they were relegated into the third-tier of English football, whilst under the management of Darren Moore.

Windass has been linked with a move to Premier League clubs earlier in the year but has committed his future to the League One club.

Sheffield Wednesday supporters will be hoping that he can return to action at the earliest of opportunities, with Windass currently recovering from a hamstring injury.

‘Explosive’

It’s a real statement of intent by Wednesday to tie Windass down to a new contract, as he’s shown that he’s more than good enough to be playing regularly in the Championship, never mind League One.

The 27-year-old was a rare bright spark for the Owls last term, as they were relegated from the second-tier, and he’s clearly keen on playing his part in their bid for promotion this season.

He was the club’s top goalscorer in the 2020/21 season and will be looking to make up for lost time when he returns from surgery on a hamstring injury.

You don’t attract interest from Premier League clubs by chance, and that shows a considerable amount about the ability that Windass has in his locker.

So, for Wednesday to be able to keep hold of a player of his quality, despite being in League One, it shows a lot about their ambition of wanting to win promotion back into the Championship at the first time of asking.

Speaking in an interview with Football FanCast back in January 2021 after Josh Windass suffered a hamstring injury, his father Dean, labelled his son as ‘explosive runner’.

“He pulled his hamstring last week. So I can say it’s a grade one tear. And he’s out for 10 days.

“He’s a bit gutted you know, but there’s been a lot of games and there’s been a lot of injuries in every club. He’s a quick, explosive runner so you’re going to get injuries like that.”

Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping they can pick up their first win of the season, when they return to action this weekend, as they take on Doncaster Rovers at Hillsborough.

And in other Sheffield Wednesday news, This man isa yet to make a decision about his future….
