City: Daily Mail makes Declan Rice claim

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester City are interested in signing West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The lowdown: Contract rebel

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence for both club and country in the last 18 months and has been the centre of heightened speculation regarding a possible move away.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/man-city-newest-updates/” title=”Man City newest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Following a report from The Guardian confirming that Rice had recently rejected a third contract offer from West Ham, a summer switch looks increasingly likely for the former Chelsea academy starlet.

Now it appears that Pep Guardiola could be about to make a beeline for the London-born midfielder…

The latest: Mail makes claim…

As per the report from the Daily Mail, City are believed to be ‘ready to launch’ a move for the 29-cap England man.

As well as this, ‘City bosses have made it clear they can go after Rice’ as Eastlands officials set their sights on him – even after they’ve already ‘agreed’ a deal for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Braut Haaland.

Amidst strong interest from rivals Manchester United, the report claims that the Citizens have asked West Ham to ‘keep them informed’ regarding any developments on Rice.

Unsurprisingly the over £100million valuation is billed as a ‘sticking point’ in any attempt to bring the man once hailed as ‘exceptional’ by Guardiola to Eastlands.

The verdict: At all costs

Whilst it would almost certainly shatter the £105.7million record expenditure spent on Jack Grealish in the summer of 2021, signing Rice would be a superb piece of business at almost any price.

Capable of operating as a conventional defensive midfielder and as a centre-back, the Englishman should be viewed as the ideal candidate to replace departing Sky Blues stalwart Fernandinho by director of football Txiki Begiristain.

Sunderland transfer news on Stewart

Sunderland may reportedly now sell Ross Stewart once the summer transfer window opens.

The Lowdown: Promotion push

Stewart has been integral to the Stadium of Light faithful’s promotion push this season, scoring 22 goals and supplying five assists in League One, where he has not missed a single game (Transfermarkt).

Black Cats legend Kevin Phillips even went as far as to claim that he has been ‘incredible’, and his numbers certainly show that, ranking as far and away the squad’s best player according to Whoscored’s match ratings.

The Latest: Interest

Taking to Twitter, The Northern Echo journalist Scott Wilson has revealed that three clubs are now ‘chasing’ Stewart in Glasgow Rangers, Norwich City and Swansea City ahead of a potential move in the summer.

Alex Neil is ‘aware’ of the interest in his talisman, but does not want to be distracted by it as he aims to bring the Wearside club up to the Championship.

However, whether they are promoted or not is ‘likely’ to be the catalyst for any decision on Stewart’s future, suggesting that he could be sold if they do not go up.

The Verdict: Keep

The board must do everything that they can to keep Stewart, even if they end up in League One again next term.

His goals are simply far too important to the team right now – after all, nobody in the squad comes close to his 22, with Everton loanee Nathan Broadhead the next best with nine strikes.

The Scotsman has received no fewer than 11 man-of-the-match awards, more than the next three SAFC players combined (WhoScored).

He also wins more aerial duels and averages more shots per game than his teammates, so replacing everything Stewart brings to the table would be an astronomical task.

Arsenal fans slam Tomiyasu vs Liverpool

Many Arsenal fans have been left slamming the display of Takehiro Tomiyasu in their 2-0 loss at home to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Thursday night.

The Japan international was run ragged by Diogo Jota at times, as the former Wolves winger left him in the dust to slot in the away side’s first goal of the night.

Jota then made a clever outside to inside run off the back of Tomiyasu before chipping the ball over Aaron Ramsdale for his second.

The right-back had a poor game in general by his standards, losing out on eight of his duels in total, while he also failed to block any shots or make any tackles or crosses.

He gave possession away 18 times, the joint-second most out of any player on the pitch (SofaScore).

These members of the Emirates Stadium faithful slammed his performance on Twitter, with one Gunners supporter even going as far as to claim that he was ‘horrible’:

Celtic: Jota talks at advanced stages

Celtic appear to be closing in on the permanent signing of current loanee Jota from Benfica, The Daily Record report.

The Lowdown: Jota spotted in Lisbon

Jota has recently returned to his permanent employers and was spotted at the club’s training complex to assess his hamstring injury.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-copy/” title=”Celtic updates!! (Copy)” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 22-year-old has missed the last seven games prior to the winter break due to injury and was ordered home by Benfica’s medical staff.

Prior to his injury the versatile attacker was in fantastic form and becoming one of Ange Postecoglou’s most trusted players, providing 13 direct goal involvements in 16 starts.

Celtic have the option to make the winger’s loan move permanent for a fee of £6.5m, and it seems as if they are going to do just that going off recent reports.

The Latest: Advanced stages

According to A Bola, relayed by The Daily Record, Celtic and Benfica are now in advanced talks over a full-time transfer.

Jota, described as ‘clinical’ by Owen Hargreaves, could become the club’s third permanent attacking addition, with the Hoops already signing Daizen Maeda and close to landing teenager Johnny Kenny from Sligo Rovers in the coming days.

The Verdict: Brilliant news

The Portuguese attacker has been a revelation at Parkhead since joining in the summer, so a permanent switch should be viewed as excellent news. He was in a real purple patch in front of goal prior to his injury, racking up three goals in his last three Premiership games.

The manager is clearly a big fan too, praising the youngster not just for being ‘very talented’ but also for buying into the system, working hard and pressing from the front.

Jota is still just 22 years of age, so even though the Hoops will need to pay more than his £4.95m Transfermarkt valuation to make him a permanent Celtic player, you’d expect that his market value will surpass the £6.5m mark sooner rather than later due to his displays on the pitch.

It would be the most expensive signing of the Postecoglou era, and over time, it could be viewed as one of the most important.

3 Teams That Have Won The Most Games In the EPL

A lesser-known fact surrounding the EPL is that there have only ever been a few teams that circulate at the top.

Of course, this is something that doesn’t tend to get a lot of media attention, and if this truth was more well-known, it could lead to a potential decrease in anticipation for certain games (something which would be a nightmare for event organisers).

Despite this, it is true; there are a select few teams in the EPL that tend to dominate all competition.

In this article, we will be taking a look at the top three teams that have won the most games in the EPL, as well as also touching upon a few of the points why this phenomenon tends to take place.

 1. Manchester United

As many of you may have already expected, Manchester United takes the number one spot on this list.

However, even though most people tend to know about United’s notorious reputation, few actually understand the true depths that their talents go to.

As a whole, Manchester United has won an impressive 697 wins.

Even without giving any explanation at all, this is already somewhat mind-blowing.

Although, when you factor in the fact that the trailing Manchester has 100 fewer wins under their belt, this only becomes all the more awe-inspiring.

There are a ton of reasons why people love Manchester United, and United fans are known for being some of the most devout followers out there.

Their impressive win rate is just one of the factors that embolden their fans to such an extent, and out of any of the teams in the EPL, they have the right to call themselves the best club overall.

Moreover, most people who know a thing or two about football know this is the case.

Just try EPL betting at 10bet or your preferred booking hub of choice and you will see for yourself that despite the fact no one likes to admit it, everyone knows Manchester United is king.

2. Arsenal

Taking the number two spot, albeit with a huge margin between the first, is Arsenal.

More so than most other teams, Arsenal is known for being phenomenal at away games, and this is just one of the reasons why they have such a high win percentage.

If Manchester United was to be crowned the best EPL team overall, Arsenal would also have to be titled as the best performer at away games, and it is certainly their redeeming factor.

That’s not to say they are in any way bad when playing from home. On the contrary, they are an amazing side, and they have some of the best football players in the world amongst their ranks.

However, if they are considered a good side while at home, they should be known as being an exceptional team whenever away, and there are few teams out there that are able to perform as well under pressure as Arsenal.

 3. Chelsea

Coming in at number three, we have Chelsea.

It is important to note that number two and number three are pretty much identical in overall wins, with both Chelsea and Arsenal being interchangeable.

Chelsea is an all-around solid team, and they excel in almost every area.

Chelsea truly has it all; world-class players, an insane work ethic, intelligent strategies – they really are an incredibly well-rounded side.

Once again, if you happen to bet on EPL then you will already be accustomed to their high favorability in almost all situations, and it is not very often that Chelsea comes up against a team that is able to deal with them easily.

Chelsea and Arsenal truly are head-to-head in terms of overall wins, with them both sitting at 597. Only time will tell which one of them will pull ahead in the long term.

Either way, they are both incredible teams, and both deserve their impressive reputations.

If you are an avid fan of football, then you may have already guessed one or two of the entries on our list.

Few people know just how dominant certain teams are within the premier league, and in reality, the teams we listed in this article are leaps and bounds above most of the others.

The EPL is one of the most competitive events there is in sports, and for just a select few teams to push so far ahead of everyone else, it only goes to show the skill and talent they each possess.

Rudolph double piles on Durham misery

Those who scoffed at Yorkshire’s self-belief after the side tipped for relegation had won their opening two matches might decide to keep their thoughts to themselves if Andrew Gale’s young team can turn a compellingly strong position in this contest into

Jon Culley at Headingley 28-Apr-2010
ScorecardJacques Rudolph left Durham left Durham’s depleted bowling attack with an undefeated 228•Getty ImagesThose who scoffed at Yorkshire’s self-belief after the side tipped for relegation had won their opening two matches might decide to keep their thoughts to themselves if Andrew Gale’s young team can turn a compellingly strong position in this contest into an emphatic victory over the defending champions. It not yet being May, there is a temptation to dismiss early-season results as not particularly relevant, on the basis that there is still a long way to go. In fact, after what had appeared to be a ridiculously early start, bound to be ruined by the weather, has instead produced three weeks of unbroken and positive cricket, we may be witnessing the decisive phase of the campaign.Durham’s crown has not slipped yet – they did, after all, beat Hampshire, supposedly a key rival, only last week – but they are looking much less invincible than had been supposed, particularly with their bowling resources so stretched. A comeback game for Graham Onions is still some way off and Steve Harmison’s back is taking time to heal. Given that those two shared 96 wickets last season, it is little wonder Durham are feeling their absence. Here they need to reach 461 merely to avoid the follow on after a second day dominated by Yorkshire, in which the redoubtable Jacques Rudolph, despite taking a bang on the helmet when a shot from partner and fellow centurion Anthony McGrath caught him with a glancing blow, expanded an epic innings to seven and three quarter hours, eclipsing his own personal best.Having laboured so long in the field, unable to make much headway on a slow pitch against batsmen happy to accumulate rather than take liberties, they might have hoped at least to post a sizeable total of their own, but after losing three wickets in the last session, their prospects look less than rosy.Ominously, moreover, they lost two of those wickets to consecutive deliveries by Adil Rashid, the leg-spinner, who has the experience now to deliver what Durham’s Scott Borthwick, the 20-year-old, could only hint at.Rudolph, the South African left-hander, walked off unbeaten on 228, bettering the 222 not out he made on his Test debut against Bangladesh in 2003, after Gale had decided he had enough in the bank 38 minutes after tea.The runs took his tally for the season to 473. He is on course already to be Yorkshire’s top scorer for the fourth season running. A controversial signing when he arrived in 2007, penning a Kolpak deal only five months after playing his 36th Test for South Africa, Yorkshire can count themselves fortunate to have him. His arrival might have been blocked in the first place but, after passing the revised Kolpak criteria for this season, he is contracted to stay now until the end of next season.Bizarrely, he and McGrath attracted criticism for scoring too slowly at times yesterday, not least when the chance to push on for a fourth batting point was allowed to pass with no discernible change in approach. But perhaps that is a legacy of the tempo at which much of today’s cricket tends to be played, prompting questions to be asked if a feat happens not to be achieved at high speed.A measured approach is sometimes exactly what is required and this Rudolph innings should not be considered a lesser achievement just because it was more workmanlike than classical. And no batsman hits 35 boundaries without unfurling the odd high-quality shot and when there are so many running off towards the fence it is easy for the appreciation to be dulled. The partnership with McGrath was in itself a tour de force, adding 206 in 74 overs and grinding Durham’s spirits to dust, even if it ended a little farcically, McGrath setting off for a run to mid-off, Rudolph declining and Dale Benkenstein hurting his knee as he retrieved the ball and executed the run-out.Gale missed an opportunity of his own, driving a widish ball from Liam Plunkett to square cover, before Borthwick bowled Jonathan Bairstow and had Rashid caught low down at extra cover. Borthwick’s overs were experience in the bank for a young player who will hope to emulate Rashid. They were of small consolation later, however. Durham survived Tino Best’s first Championship overs for Yorkshire but lost Kyle Coetzer when Rudolph grabbed a catch at first slip off Steve Patterson at the second attempt before two Rashid googlies accounted for Will Smith and nightwatchman Mark Davies. They have it all to do on day three.

Bale rejoining Spurs could help unlock Kane

Gareth Bale has been linked with another return to Tottenham Hotspur…

What’s the word?

That’s according Spanish outlet Super Deporte, who claim that Spurs are the most interested team as he enters the final few months of his current contract at Real Madrid.

Los Blancos president Florentino Perez has already made it clear that he does not intend to extend the Welshman’s deal at the Bernabeu, meaning he will be available for nothing in the summer and can even speak to foreign teams from January.

It’s believed that Antonio Conte has the final word on whether or not the Lilywhites sign Bale for a third time.

Kane’s saviour

And approve a deal he must.

Despite rarely featuring under Jose Mourinho and then interim Ryan Mason during last season’s loan spell, Spurs have sorely missed his influence in the final third.

Indeed, the north London giants are struggling to score goals.

Only rock-bottom Norwich City (10.7) have averaged fewer shots than Spurs (10.9), whilst the fifth-placed outfit are inside the bottom seven for expected goals, as per Understat.

[snack-amp-story url = “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-hotspur-latest-team-injury-team-news-updates-transfers-gossip-rumours-antonio-conte-thfc” title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer updates and much, much more!”]

Bale bagged three goals in seven starts in the Europa League and found the net 11 times (third-most) in the league, even though he started ten of his 20 appearances, via WhoScored. He managed a goal or assist every 71 minutes and that’s exactly what Conte needs to get Spurs firing on all cylinders again.

As such, the burden would be lowered on Harry Kane, who has delivered just one goal in the Premier League all season.

Furthermore, the pair combined for four goals in their 772 minutes on the pitch together last season, so you’d imagine that if they featured together more regularly, then the Spurs duo could be a lethal duo in the attack more often.

Even Mourinho dubbed the 6 foot 1 winger “remarkable” for his “incredible” impact at the club, both on and off the pitch, so that’s another encouraging factor for Conte to consider.

The 100-time Wales international, who is valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, would be an astute free signing for Spurs in the summer. Fabio Paratici and co must look to seal his permanent signature this time around.

AND in other news, 67% duels lost: “Special” £17m-rated Spurs dud may have blown his chance under Conte…
