Nuno Espirito Santo is now reportedly ready to launch his first transfer move in charge of West Ham United to sign Bristol City’s set-piece specialist Scott Twine.

The Hammers could certainly do with a busy January transfer window. Whilst results have improved recently, their 2-2 draw against Bournemouth in a game that they led 2-0 exposed their problems once again.

After watching on as his side let go of their 2-0 lead gained through Callum Wilson’s goals, Nuno told reporters: “It’s a very tough place to come. The first half was us – we took advantage of the straight ball, of the second ball, we managed the tempo of the game, we managed to control Bournemouth, and we achieved a good lead.

“In the second half, Bournemouth did exactly the same that we did [in the first]. They managed better the circumstances of the game, we couldn’t go out, they put us against the ropes, they engaged five players in the last line.

“The boys were organised but were missing the pass to go out of pressure, to really hurt them with space, under tough circumstances. But the positive is that I think the team was resilient, was organised, was compact and was really committed.”

After the dramatic draw, West Ham have at least escaped the dropzone, albeit only on goal difference. With the visit of Liverpool up next, they’ll be hoping to compile the champions’ recent misery and escape the relegation zone in the process.

It goes without saying that the January transfer window would be a lot easier if West Ham were approaching it without the bottom three in mind. It would hand Nuno the perfect opportunity to welcome first-choice reinforcements and potentially take the Hammers onwards and upwards.

On that front, the former Nottingham Forest manager already has certain additions in mind, according to reports.

According to Sports Boom, Nuno is now ready to launch West Ham’s move to sign Twine from Bristol City in the January transfer window. The set-piece specialist would be an instant upgrade on James Ward-Prowse, who has been frozen out by Nuno, and would cost West Ham just £8m.

One Milwaukee fan made an interesting life decision Wednesday to attend Game 2 of the Brewers' wild-card series against the New York Mets at American Family Field.

Wearing a Brewers visor and holding a onesie, the fan's sign revealed that he was attending the playoff game despite his first baby being due Wednesday. The bottom of the sign read, "P.S. Thanks honey."

Of course, this all could be in good fun and not reality. But ESPN announcers Boog Sciambi and Doug Granville were not having it.

"Wow, that's love right there," Sciambi said. "I'm assuming he's going to get a phone call if necessary and will bolt out of here."

The Brewers, facing elimination in Game 2, put on an entertaining display for that fan on Wednesday night at American Family Field. Despite trailing 1-0, 3-1, and 3-2, the Brewers fought back and took a 5–3 lead in the bottom of the eighth.

Jackson Chourio, the Brewers' 20-year-old rookie phenom, belted two opposite-field home runs, and 26-year-old outfielder Garrett Mitchell socked a go-ahead two-run dinger in the eighth inning.

The Brewers held on to win Game 2 5-3 and forced Game 3 at American Family Field at 8:38 p.m. ET Thursday.

It was Joao Pedro’s turn to get himself sent off against Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday night, but fortunately, it was late enough in the game to have no real impact.

Before the Brazilian was given his marching orders, the Conference League champions were fighting to hold onto their 1-0 lead, and while it wasn’t a vintage performance, that is just what they did.

With that said, there were a few players who struggled to make an impact, including one who was massively outshone by Pedro Neto and should be dropped for the weekend.

In the build-up to the game, former Chelsea manager, and arguably the greatest in the club’s history, José Mourinho, described Neto as “one of the best wingers in the world.”

While such praise is probably a little over the top, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers star made sure not to disappoint his fellow countryman with his performance.

The rapid winger didn’t score a goal or produce an assist in the match, but it was his cross to Alejandro Garnacho that preceded the Argentine’s cross, which ended in an own goal for the visitors.

However, it wasn’t just that one ball, as the dynamic 25-year-old was a constant threat down the wing and most certainly had the beating of his opposite man.

Unsurprisingly, the Blues’ “unsung hero,” as Joe Cole dubbed him during TNT’s coverage, also left an impression on the watching press, as football.london’s Bobby Vincent awarded him an 8/10 match rating at full-time.

In all, while it wasn’t necessarily the toughest of opponents or the most perfect of displays, Neto more than did his part in Chelsea’s win and simply has to start the next game, unlike another attacker he totally outshone.

While much of the Chelsea team put in middling to good performances against Benfica, some struggled to make a positive impact, like Pedro and Jamie Gittens.

However, those two were only given 30 minutes to try to influence the game, so you can forgive them for underwhelming on the night, which is an excuse that cannot be extended to Tyrique George.

Unsurprisingly, his statistics more than justify such an appraisal, as in 61 minutes of action, the youngster amassed a combined expected goal and assists figure of 0.13, took one shot on target, completed eight passes, took just 15 touches, didn’t complete a pass and didn’t play a single key pass.

The London-born gem is clearly a talented player; his youth numbers, cameos last season, and performance last week suggest as much, but it’s crystal clear that he’s not someone who can lead the line for Chelsea.

Therefore, to improve the team and for George’s own sake, Maresca should take him out of the starting lineup for the game against Liverpool this weekend.

South Africa will not host any men’s Tests next summer, in accordance with the Future Tours Programme (FTP), and only have one inbound tour – a five-match T20I series against West Indies – in the 2025-26 season. This is the first time since readmission that South Africa will not host men’s Tests with the next long-format home fixtures scheduled for October 2026 against Australia.The lean schedule will allow for Cricket South Africa to focus on stadium upgrades ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Several of the country’s premier grounds will have makeovers including new floodlights and drop-in pitches, which will be prepared well ahead of time and tested before the main event.It will also give the South African women’s side the spotlight, as they host Ireland and Pakistan for three T20Is and three ODIs each. They will play matches at all of South Africa’s big five venues: Newlands in Cape Town, St George’s Park in Gqeberha, the Wanderers in Johannesburg, SuperSport Park in Centurion and Kingsmead in DurbanThe women’s team will visit the smaller centres in Paarl, Benoni, East London, Potchefstroom, Bloemfontein and Kimberley as well, meaning they will have a match at all the country’s major grounds in the same season. The Premier League is widely regarded as not only the best league in football but also the most lucrative, as English top flight teams rack up hundreds of millions in every transfer window.

While PSR has limited owners from spending beyond their means in recent seasons, it hasn’t stopped English teams from leading the European market year after year, with over £3 billion spent in the summer transfer window by Premier League clubs.

Despite all the noise surrounding Alexander Isak, Newcastle actually had one of the more productive incoming windows, bringing in Nick Woltemade for a club record £69m fee while Jacob Ramsey adds sky high potential to an already quality midfield.

Evangelos Marinakis led a late flurry of activity at Nottingham Forest in an attempt to keep Nuno Espirito Santo happy, but their greatest piece of business may just be preventing the sale of Morgan Gibbs-White to Tottenham.

Leeds failed to sell a single player for profit this summer, meaning they rank in the top ten after deals for the likes of Anton Stach and Noah Okafor.

Everton, like Forest, waited until late in the window to really get going, but ended up sixth courtesy mainly of their deals for Tyler Dibling and Thierno Barry, although the loan signing of Jack Grealish could prove to be the bargain of the season.

The top five sees four very unsurprising big spenders accompanied by Sunderland, who enjoyed a memorable summer, bringing in big name players with Premier League experience, such as Granit Xhaka, along with riskier moves on high ceiling players such as Brighton winger Simon Adingra.

Tottenham captured Randal Kolo Muani on loan in a last-minute move on deadline day, but it was the deals for attacking midfielders Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons that placed them in with the top spenders.

Manchester United’s late deal for goalkeeper Senne Lammens took them into the top three, having reinforced their attack earlier in the window with big money deals for Cunha, Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

Liverpool’s sales of players like Jarell Quansah, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have helped the Reds to somehow not top the list despite spending nearly £450m on new signings. Indeed, the Reds recouped over £200m more than Arsenal, whose own spending is highlighted by deals for Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres.
